Curious to hear from those of you who consistently hunt elk from treestands. What do you look at when setting up a stand site? Having never hunted elk before I have an opportunity to hunt a ranch in Montana. I am being told the majority of the hunting will be from a stand.
Also would a 56#@28 (drawn to 28) bow with a 560 grain arrow tipped with a razor sharp snuffer 160 grain arrow be adequate or should I look to increase arrow weight/bow weight or both?
I appreciate any input that will be provided. I am used to my home states whitetails but not something as big as an elk. Just trying to get my bearings here.....
Most "stand" hunting for elk is over water and/or wallows. Elk don't really pattern like whitetails do. They tend to roam and roam and roam and roam and roam... You get the idea.
From a stand your shots should be close. I think that draw weight will be just fine. Consider a 2 blade head for better penetration. These are big, tough critters.
Good luck. What part of MT are you hunting?
