Title: Static TD
Post by: Trux Turning on June 18, 2016, 05:31:00 PM
I had a short riser laying around without limbs so I made a new form and glued up a set of limbs for it. I'm taking a shot at building a static so everything is kind of a "wag". It's going to be around 58" and hopefully in a shoot able weight. I modified the limb pad angles on the riser t push the limb tips forward some and got the limbs mounted- with any luck I'll shape the limbs and see what happens when I put a string on it.

Lookin good David!! I haven't done a static, not much to cut off limb tips?

Not sure how much length after the bend a bow needs...

Mark- I'm still trying to figure out how far to run the limbs full width. I used .003 taper and have already cut the limbs to their final length.

Looking good Dave!  Did you use John's static as a inspiration.  Guess you could leave the limbs wide  as you could always narrow them down later.  I am with BenBow this should be fun.

Thanks- yes I did use Johns bow for inspiration- I'll probably go over and measure the limb width on his bow to give me an idea on how to taper the limbs on this one.

This will be interesting. Have you used loose tip wedges to achieve the stiff tips?

No tip wedges yet- just a pretty tight hook. If needed I'll add some to the belly. Here's a better picture of the end of the limb.

Looking good Trux!  I'm just finishing up a static form myself. Please post some pics and info on how you do your limb tracking and tillering. Looking forward to the finished product.

David you need to quit let unimportant things like work and the like keep you from getting this done.  I hate this waiting!

Haha you're right- I did get the limbs tapered and have nock overlays glued on, with any luck I'll get a string on it today or tomorrow... Then some updated photos if all goes well.

Today would be much better.  Haven't you heard the old saying "never put off what you can do today until tomorrow."

So today it is- I cut the nocks but still need to shape them. A quick weight check has the bow at 55#@28" which is a good start. Limbs seem to be stable at the width I got them.

I got the riser sanded some as well as the rest of the bow... Plus I got to shoot it. It's pretty quick and very quiet- kind of longbow quiet and is easy to shoot.

Thanks guys! Its a pretty cool bow to shoot and came out with an amo length of 56"s- and should be 53@28 once everything is done. Just have some sanding to do before I spray it.

Maybe I missed what woods are in riser, I think it will be killer when you spray it.

Nice bow!!

Kenny- thanks- the riser is bubinga with a blood wood flare and it will look better once I hit it with some finish.
