Title: Bow saved from the fire

In 2014 I built my first successful HBO. I shot somewhere around 300 - 400 arrows through it before I heard a creaking in the lower limb. There was a knot on the belly side lower limb just outside the fades a bit. I let down from the draw and figured it was toast. After some research I attempted the Dean Torges patch but that failed. Possibly due to the small u shape fix that I had attempted. So the bow sat in the corner for a couple years and I figured it would be a wall decoration or that I would get tired of looking at a failure and cut it up.

I pulled it down last week and figured I would give a new thought a try before cutting it up for fire wood.

I opened up the u shape from an inch and a half to about 4 inches long. Then proceeded to take .030 lams of Osage and using smooth on epoxy I glued a couple pieces down at a time let it dry sanded and added more lams until I had leveled up the hollow.

And to my surprise it held together! The tiller was off a bit but some scraping brought things back in line and I have put about 500 arrows through it with no issues. I decided to give it a paint job and use some b50 string I had laying around to cover up the layering of lams on the belly side.

Nice save on a good looking bow.  I've rasped down the bellies on a couple of whitewood bows, glued on osage lams and retillered them.  I probably could have made a new bow in the time that I spent on it, but there is just so much satisfaction in saving one.
