Title: Completed my archery library (for now)!
Post by: Pago on March 09, 2016, 08:27:00 PM
I have been looking to buy this book for months but couldn't find it much below $150 which would eat up way too much of my bow building fund.  I ended up getting it on fleabay for less than $50 shipped and I don't think the book has ever been opened.  This will keep me busy for awhile.

That's the one I've been looking for too. I haven't found it that cheap or I would have bought it.

I have to admit I was openly hoping I would get it bought without much notice, I got lucky.  Should I describe how wonderful it is in all its glory?  lol

Yes.

Better yet, while I continue to search for my own copy, tell me what it says, if anything, about tests and results related to relative limb balance.

Less than 50 bucks... I'm green with envy.

I should have bought the danged entire collection.

this book should be required reading for anyone who wants to build a wooden bow. my copy is a stray from that collection, just like yours, Pago.

I don't recall any reference to limb balance that was meaningful, but this book is where I learned about the virtues of a trapezoidal cross section, which imo, is just as important to getting the most out of a bow as proper balance.

I checked the index last night and didn't see anything specific to limb balance but, once I read through the chapters something may show up.  I generally do ok with math and have written some mathematical models but there is some pretty heady trig in there.  I'm thinking it will take several times going over the material before I can wrap my thick head around it.
