Title: The turkey bow
Post by: kennym on February 21, 2016, 11:46:00 AM
Here ya go Roy, now ya know it really happened...    :D

This is a 58" forward handle sl/bow 51#@28"built for using in my blind( I really dislike being in a blind but I ain't killin turkeys outside of one), was gonna do flat black after the dyed curly maple didn't look like I wanted .

Then I thought "what if I want to hunt out of the blind some??? "  So added some branches and a few leaves....

Cool looking finish.  That is sure a pronounced deflex on that bow and the full draw looks fully loaded.

not sure i understand your title- is it a bow for turkeys - to shoot turkeys or to be shot at by turkeys-
cheers
Roy...

Thanks Roy, I do look good,eh?

Wolfie, I think that's about all she will do!

Fuji, it is a turkey bow, made, shot and shot at by turkeys. LOL No pics of stained lams, let me say 50/50 black and dark brown rit makes DARK.Which was OK for a blind bow, but the riser was c maple too and I couldn't take the way it stained or the aboo in limb edges.

Scott, I shoulda cut back on the taper rate like we talked I think. Went with .003 total and the profile ain't quite what I wanted to see. Next time.....

Greg- I can mail you a pattern and what I have in this one for stack, etc. I'm gonna change the next one so not sure how that will work out!

 Thanks Justin !

Kenny, I think the bow looks great!!  And as you know I love short bows.

How does it compare to your normal 64" bows? It will be easier to handle it that blind.

Where you gonna put that blind?  I know where I would put it.

You tell me where you would put the blind and I'll tell you how it compares!!

Seriously it is just about same speed and being shorter don't seem to bother my shooting. Oh, just ordered one o them srf sights too, need good shot placement for turks and I need all the help I can get. Fred Bear I aint!  :readit:

Not so sure your taper is off.  That looks like a great no stack string angle.

I'm not a forward handle fan, but that one looks nice.

I have two bows with finish by Krylon and for the same reason.   :)

#1 choice would be where ever you took that pic with all those turkeys.

#2 choice would be in the little hidden field on the south farm where we tracked my buck.  I have watched them roost in those tall trees on the creek there many many times.

#1 is over the ridge west in the creek bottom, can't go there..

I was thinking in that field or across the ditch north.

Lots of rabbits Roy, ya never know and I usually have sumpin close by!

Mike, I was kind of wanting a little stiffer tip and a bit more bend midlimb but I sure can't complain how she shoots.

Thanks Brad! You are getting closer to MO, gonna make MOJAM?

Cool looking bow there Kenny!  Looks like it will smoke an arrow. How long is your riser in that one?

Thanks David!

Chris, I cut back to 16" in this one along with using the superlam, it don't bend too bad off the riser but not quite what I had envisioned in midlimb.

I had a 60" that the bend in the limb looked like that. I was using .003 so I went to .002 with 8" tip wedge and it stiffened up the tip just right.

I bet a .050 x 8 glass tip wedge would make a big diff.

Nice talkin to ya tonite Chris!!

Thanks for the offer Kenny, but I should finally get started on the Bingham's hybrid I promised my daughter.  As slow as I am at making a glass bow, I won't need those plans for another year or so.
I really like that forward handle, though...
