Title: Starting a few sinewed recurves
Post by: Mark Smeltzer on February 20, 2016, 12:37:00 AM
Just thought I would post the progress a I go.
Im starting three recurves. Osage, Yew and Juniper
sometimes it's easier to bring multiple bows along at the same time.
Here's what they should look like completed.

Where's the photos of the sinewing process?  I see one that looks to be backed in snakeskin.

Thank you ! I will post some sinew pics as I go. I put skins on almost all of my sinewed bows. Those are blow snakes and diamond backs.

thanks, a few more pictures as I go,
Finally making some yellow dust . The Osage has a great late early wood late wood ratio, Yew billets spliced and now some serious heat bending sessions. Yew, Osage and Juniper 58"- 60" sinewed recurves,

Yea, love the band saw.
I need to get some cane breaks for my next bow.
The Yew and the Osage are both exelent staves, the Juniper could go either way.

Those are thick. Never been a fan of thick growth on osage. Density and weight never seem to be part of its equasion.

Look forward to seeing your juniper, Mark!

I have heard people say that they prefer thin rings on Osage but I have always built the best bows from the the thick ring stuff. For me the thin rings belong on the Yew and the rings on this Yew are paper thin.
Just my opinion.
