How do you go about procuring heavy spine/heavy weight arrows for your high poundage bows? I need to reach 520g for my bows but it seems like the industry just isn't aligned with what I need, carbon or wood. Discussion, thoughts, tips and tricks appreciated.

There are many carbons at 10gpi and more around, aluminum too and with the right wood an heavy arrow shouldn't be a problem me thinks.

If you're looking for a heavy wood arrow, try ash.

I use hickory and have gotten them over 850 grains in 11/32" diameter.

And that would be at 85 lb spine as I try to keep my arrows at around 10 grains per pound of draw weight.

I like to add nylon cord to my carbon shaft ups the weight a good bit. You can also use very stiff shafts and heavy points to weaken the spine back down where you need it.

I have been looking at some of the 10 gpi carbon and even some of the FMJ at over 11 gpi. I see there are several weight systems out there on the market. I have been shooting 300 and 340 spine arrows but they need more weight. I am not up to speed on the wood arrow side of it, actually considering resurrecting some of my aluminum arrows I used to shoot with my compound. Just seems like enough out of the average range most people shoot to find what I want easily. I had a guy in an archery pro shop recently imply I was crazy for wanting 8 gpp for my recurve because it was a waste of energy and would cut down on my speed. Never even considering efficiency or the impact on the bow of shooting light arrows. I feel sorry for the folks he is selling recurves to :knothead:
