What is everyone's choice of glue for board bows for glueing backing and risers on
-
Smooth On EA-40 epoxy, with moderately roughened gluing surfaces.
-
Uni Bond 800 is good stuff as well.
-
Titebond 3 is good too and easy to find, gotta make sure pieces fit tight though, it's not very good at filling gaps
-
Unibond or Smooth On. I like 'em both.
-
X'2.
-
I've used Urac and all the TiteBond glues and never had a glue failure. I've made hickory and boo backed osage, yew, locust, red oak, hickory and others and have glued on risers and tip overlays.
-
I have used tight bond 3 with good results on the few bows that I have built I know smooth on and and unibond are probably a step up but was curious on everyone's opinion
-
The reason I prefer Smooth On is that it's a more versatile glue, in my opinion. I use it for gluing up glass/wood laminated bows, overlays, building up risers with wood, or wood/glass combos, Z-splicing wooden billets, bows backed with bamboo and hardwood, horn/wood composites etc. It will do what Unibond will do, what Titebond will do, what Resorcinal will do... and a lot more.
Additionally, heat corrections can be made to the bow following glue up, for alignment purposes and such, without ill effects.
I have other glues here of course and rely on them for certain applications, but use Smooth On 9 times out of 10.

Has anyone tried dap weldwood plastic resin glue? It is a ureaformaldehyde glue, I ordered some, was inexpensive, hoping it performs similar to unibond.
-
I use TB3 rough up the pieces with 50 grit get surfaces good and clean. Cant find Smooth On in my parts. And have yet to find Urac. WellBond seems like a good product but I dont think its water proof.

Whooa cheap but that is USA prices, our dollar up here is worthless and most products are from the States.
Last year a spool of B-50 here was $10.00 now its $14.95. A spool of serving is $30.00.
A small bottle of TB3 is $10.00
