Title: Staining glass?

Bought a traditional takedown bow a while back with maple/glass limbs.

I want to darken their color a bit with somekind of transparent stain.

Is that possible?

I don't know of a stain but you could paint the limbs. the paint would be semi-permanent.

Not gonna work, AFAIK.  Get some "limb socks" made to fit that are in a color you like.

Ok, then I'll just leave them as they are as I wanted the look of a bit darker wood.

powder dye
mix with your finish and spray on.
I would test a piece of glass before sanding the limbs.

I little goes a long way

Snakeskins can be cool but what I'd like to achieve here is "wood with an amber like colour".

I made an old white glass maple riser Bear look like this with alcohol dyes....not the best result..but it was better than bright white.
The bow needed a refinish anyway...

Sanded thru the finish.
dyed the glass and wood
sanded a little dye off the glass to get the grey color I wanted (would've been BLACK without sanding)
refinished.

You can run alcohol dyes over some finishes and get a little adhesion. Normally methanol would be the solvent of choice for this. Then recoat with your clear.
...some experimentation would be needed though.

also...
if you have your own spray rig, you can tint a clear coat.
You can tint wipe on poly too...just sayin

also...now I haven't used any of this stuff..but..they do make "lens tint" paint for headlights and taillights of cars.

It can be found in grey, blue, red, yellow, and orange from different manufacturers.

Vans is one that makes lots of colors.

also some people have tried using polyshades with varied results...most seem unhappy.
