Gary Hall talked me into going on the Bear Quest hunt this year (it didn't take much talking) and I decided I needed a new bow for the event. I've been wanting one with green glass and wanting to make a reverse handle longbow, so this is what I came up with. Green on the back, gray on the belly, actionboo lams, and bubinga riser. It's 68" and 57# @ 28".
So, do you think it will kill a bear?

I wrote B.Q. X on the bow since this will be Bear Quest 10 coming up.

Nice- that's a good looking bow! No doubt it's a bear killer...
-
Very nice, should do the job allright.
-
Looks great! Hope you get a big one with it.
-
Well... maybe a little one. ;)
Nice bow.
Dave.
-
That there is bad news......for bears!
Nice looking bow.
-
Nice John is the gray glass old stock or some of the new from OMC?
-
Nice looking bow! Bet the bears are already trembling.
-
Heck yeah! Nice bow John!
-
Nice bow! I should get the job done
-
Thanks for the compliments Guys.
Rob - It's some of the new stuff from OMC and is a shade darker than the old stuff I got from you a few years ago.
-
Looks great John. Like that green and grey glass with bubinga. Very nice. What kind of taper are you using now on your ASL's?
-
Ben - 0.005 total taper with 1 1/8" width at the fadeouts and then narrowing to 1/2" at the nocks.
-
Sweet bow! Very nice work!
-
That is nice! That has bear written all over it!
-
Great work as usual John !!! Good luck on the bear hunt.
-
Very nice John, I would really like to get my hands on that if we can cross paths at one of the shoots this year!
-
Sweet John. That will work for a stuffed teddy bear maybe..
-
How do you like the reverse handle John? I like the looks of it
-
I like this one for sure! Not usually a fan of the reverse handle but I really like the looks of this one.
-
Thats what I call a working bow. A looks good to.

More than likely, it will be the arrow that kills the bear. And that's only if the operator does his part right. Then again, an unstrung Hill style bow is a lot like a spear if things get desperate!
-
Love reverse handle longbows!
And yours looks great John!
Good shootin!

Very true, Dave. Why do you need to be so logical and literal? Must be an engineer thing.
This hunt will give "up close and personal" shots, and my tips are pretty pointy. If I empty the quiver, the bow will be the final projectile and have a good chance at connecting.
Rob - I just finished getting the leather grip and rest on it yesterday, so I haven't shot it much, but so far I like it. It's within one pound of another regular risered bow I have with a similar limb design (1 1/8" width and 0.005 total taper), but this one does seem to draw smoother. I even put it back on the scale when I was done shooting to double check the draw weight. Must be the fact the limbs are closer to the shooter resulting in less string angle at full draw.
Thanks for all the compliments, Guys.

John,
I really like the looks of your bows. I'm always impressed with how many talented people we have on this site. You are definitely one of them my friend.Hopefully you will let me shoot one sometime at Denton Hill.

Nice job on the bow.......it's 10#'s heavier than the bow I killed a bear with on BQ 9 so I think you will good to go. And yes.......the shots up there are close......real close!!
-
Very classy! I'd say that will work just fine, good luck!
