Guess it's time for a new thread.
Well, I started by sleeping in, then taking a decongestant, then going back to sleep for a bit longer.
Plans for the rest of the day/weekend include wrapping and shipping some bows, fixing basement shower, fixing wood splitter, and getting started on a Murphy bed. Sister and family coming tomorrow night. Bed has to be far enough along that it at least holds the mattress up off the floor. I'll let y'all know how it went on Sunday.
-
Man this is a sad day when Dave is cranking out more bows than me .... I think I only built 3 for 2015. My New Years resolution is to manage time better and get more projects, including bows finished. 16 bows for 2016 sounds nice but I think 6 is more realistic.
Woke up 8:30, starting to get things together to go to the in-laws today. Wife is pregnant so even minor things like leaving on time seem to turn into disasters .....
-
I don't feel like doing very much today. Catching up on some reading. Maybe I'll shoot a few arrows with my niece and nephew later.
Dave.
-
Guess I'm going to be helping a grandson put brakes on the front of his Durango. Hoping to put it off till tomorrow when the temperature is expected to soar into the low forties.
Between the holidays and the cold I've been feeling trapped in the house. Maybe time for a bunny bowhunt.
-
Started straightening some shafts that I acquired on the TGMM giveaway. Making these for the deer/hog hunt in La later this month.
-
I am refinishing my bow. Today I put on the final base coat of clear and now it is ready for thunderbird clear, a few coats then dry time. Tomorrow I'll spray it with satin.
-
I made some adjustments to my bandsaw, then I gave my miter saw some badly needed TLC... squared everything up, lubed it, put on a new blade. It cuts like a new one. It would have been a good day if that's all I got accomplished.
I also finished redesigning and building my jigs for BBO bows, trilams and such. I'm much happier with it's versatility and the recurve design this time, but won't REALLY know until a bow comes off of it.
Just taking a little break now, then I'm headed back out for round two. It's 3 pm, I've been up since 3 am.
-
Just started on a takedown for my own use. Might take a while as i have couple others going as well.
-
I didn't do nuffin today...
But the guys are going to be here early in the morning and we are gonna make bows all day...
I'm about ready to jump off a bridge. My shoulder is still hurting so I can't pull a bow, my back hurts, and now I have to get a blood test for lyme disease. Pulled a tick off my belly 6 weeks ago and it will not heal up. Seen a doctor yesterday, he said tick bites take a while to heal, then he said your belly looks red, ah chit... So I get the blood test tomorrow morning. I hope 2016 is better for me than 2015 was.
-
Decided to take out a buck hide from earlier this year and flesh it out and gonna make it into rawhide for backing some future bow projects I'm about to get to work on.
I am working on getting the wood/ash (alkali) solution just right using an egg method I learned to test the strength of the solution to get the hair to slip. Then it's a matter of letting that soak for a few days, get the hair off, and then re-scraping the flesh side and tacking it up to dry.
This weekend is going to be fairly decent weather; no rain and highs in the 50's. So once I get the hide in the solution to soak, I'll begin working on the next few bows. One's for my uncle, he gave me a few black ash staves of all things and wants me to make a bow for him
-
Roy, we need to talk. I know Lyme disease. I have tons of info and contacts. Most tests given by family doctors are notoriously unreliable, even my own doc told me that about the test he gave me.... 4 years after he/it failed me.
Oh wait... you're texting me... ;^)
-
Waiting on your text reply.
-
Last tick bite I had, doc told me that the tests weren't reliable, can have a false reading. Said I could get the test or get the antibiotics and take em. I said write em up.
I had the flulike symptoms about a week after the bite and it was real red.(the bite, Roy)
-
I helped my wife refurbish a t.v. stand then got the scales put on a knife blade I've been working on. After dinner I got them sanded down and a coat of c.a. glue on 'em. Busy year already. I can remember 2015 like it was yesterday.

Grandsons bow first time strung up.
-
Just finished rebuilding my bow oven. New insulation and new lights and new reostat. Just refurbishing my forms and then I'll be ready to glue up another. Want to do more builds this year. Want to be ready for the 2016 swap.
-
Got the hickory stick bending to 28". First bow that I've done since I altered my tree to account for limb timing, hope I got it right! It's 70" ntn, 65#@28". Planning to temper the belly, nor sure if I should reflex the tips a little. I left the last 8" stiff. It has 1" of follow upon unstringing settling to 3/4", the best of any selfbow I've made yet. I spent the day working on the bows I'm building for my niece and nephew. Both of these bows gave me a few problems, but in the end, they both shoot well and look good.
I'll post pictures after I get some finish on them.
Dave.
-
My new year is starting kind of crappy. I had all intentions of hunting with my flintlock today (second favorite thing to my longbow), but a case of muscle spasms in my back got me sidelined. What a wasted day.
-
That happens when ya get Older..
-
Tell me about it. It also hurts when I fall down now.
-
You didn't waste any time getting started on your grandson's bow, Roy. Love that profile.
I'm finally getting started on putting together the bow rack that my daughter bought for me last Christmas. Yeah, I'm a little behind on some of my projects.

A day late, but happy birthday, Dave!

Today I bought a 1"x4"x8' piece of straight grained hickory from Fleet Farm for $2.50. :)
-
Wish the Fleet where I live carried hickory. Actually they dont have any wood at the Fleet here. Nice find, you'll get a couple bows out of that!
-
Btw, I like your youtube video making a reflex de flex bow, very good and in depth.
-
Thanks. Hoping to upload a few more this year. Our Fleet has random boards of Red oak, ash, aspen, black walnut, pine, soft maple, and cherry, sold by the board foot. I figure the hickory is good for backing, black walnut and cherry good for core, but they really don't have any dense belly woods. I might try making an experiment bow with an oak belly to hone my skills before trying with osage.
-
I've made a few red oak bows. I've had good luck heat treating the belly on red oak, I have thousands of shots through one I made 4 years ago. I prefer hickory now, but would like to try white oak. I had some boards cut from a white oak felled on our property, and have also cut some nice backings from it. It seems more dense and the early growth isn't as porous as red oak.
-
So far today, I ground down some longbow limbs, I inset two logo medallions into two bows I'm completing today, I got a riser block ready to cut, and I still have to cut out the riser, glue up a longbow, rough out two grips/shelf/sight windows, glue on grips and tips. and if time permits, ship out a recurve and a longbow with which I'm almost done.
*update* (Edit) I didn't make it to the Post office today, but I got another bow glued up, and tips and grips on another longbow
-
Sounds like a lot to do with only half a day to go Mike.
I'm leaving early to hit the PO on the way home and drop off a couple of long overdue bows. I have one more to send once I hear back from the recipient with an address that the USPS doesn't tell me is invalid. It probably is fine and the computer algorithm is just not flexible enough, but I don't want to chance it.
And a haircut. Long overdue for one of those too.
-
I finally got that tumor taken out of my shoulder/back today..it was the size of a tennis ball. I havnt been doing any bow work or shooting in several months because of it. I'll be back to normal in 3 weeks..
-
Wish you a speedy recover Robert..
-
Now that's good news! Wishing the speediest of recoveries!
-
All the best Robert. I hope you recover 100%.
I went to Rockler today and got a fence and resaw fence for my bandsaw. New urethane tires too.
Then I stopped at a hardwood store and grabbed a bunch of ipe and Bolivian rosewood.
Came home to find a big package of osage waiting on the porch.
Bow wood gatherin days are good days.
Then I went out and put another coat of finish on a bow rack I'm working on.
-
Prayers for your speedy recovery Robert
-
Best wishes for you Robert. Hope you recover well.
-
Prayers for God's best Robert
-
I wish you all the best Robert :) Bue
-
Thanks, I feel pretty good today, not in the pain I was expecting! I am taking tylanol and taking it easy. Stiches come out early next week.
-
That's good, Robert...
-
I found some nice "burl maple" for limb veneers. Now I need to get some clear fiberglass, I'm gonna be busy in the shop building ILF limbs when I'm 100%.. -
That is some nice wood!
-
Robert, where did you find that burl?
-
Glued tips and grips on one longbow, shaped the grips/sight window/shelf and cut nocks, on 3 longbows, glued up a riser block, fixed my drum sander, Looked for one of my rasps for a long time....
-
Last night took my hide out of the wood ash/water solution and rubbed the hair off the hide which came out so easily! I just used the side of my hand as a plow and brushed it off and then went back with a rag and cleaned up. I cut some slits and ran a piece of rope through one end and secured it to some stakes down at the creek to rinse all the alkalinity out.
The weather has been pretty cold and the water in the creek is very cold, so I am going to leave it through tonight as well and take it out tomorrow and membrane it (gives the hide a day and a half to rinse out). Then it's tacking it up and letting it dry.
Other wise I started to remove the bark and inner bark off of another hickory stave. I found that this stave has a beautiful big knot at mid limb on one limb that extends from the edge of the stave to the middle of the stave. And like a foot towards the handle from the knot is a series of 4 pin holes in a line and evenly spaced out, that look like either barbed wire poked in or a woodpecker with OCD went to town.

Pretty cool Roy.
-
You didn't go an pet 'im Roy? :D
-
Guess you wanted to keep your hands, can't blame ya
-
You know Randy, orange isn't that far away. We should meet up some day.
-
Took some venison jerkey off the dryer for a grandson to take back to school.
This mulie Doe is one of the best eating I've ever taken.
-
Got my deer hide scraped and tacked up ready to dry into rawhide. It's going to take a while seeing that tomorrow they're calling for rain and cold temps. Be a good day to get back into the shop and continue on with my hunting bow.
Funny thing is Canopyboy our work is all up in Northern Virginia and in Maryland. Throughout the week my bro and I are either in Mclean, Vienna, Fairfax, Falls Church, Arlington, or Alexandria.
Never been in Fairfax Station area though. But we hit houses all around that area in Lorton, Chantilly, Springfield, and Manassas. I've been going to 3-D courses down by richmond because my bowyer mentor goes to them, but I've even also thought about going to some ranges in the northern virginia area, maybe meet some folks here on the board, that would be awesome.
You go to any 3-D shoots?
-
Today I worked on my bandsaw, installed new tires, a zero clearance insert, new fence and resaw fence. What a pain in the butt getting everything perfectly square and plumb. But I eventually got it. Then I finished putting up the insulation in the ceiling. I'm itchy and I'm done for the day.
-
Wrote specs on new hickory bow over a Massey finish, now spray a few coats of satin spar urethane and let it dry a few days.

Nice Jonathan!
Randy, I occasionally do the 3D shoots at NORVA, but am up for other shoots as well in the area. We should definitely try to meet up at one.
Yesterday I had my wife in the shop helping run some 3-1/2" rough white oak slabs through the machines to make her massive laundry countertop. She does pretty good work! Today I ordered a new belt sander after getting pissed off at my existing one for the last time. Then watched my team win through pure luck. This weekend I also got feedback from a couple of bows that I sent out last week, appears the new owners aren't too dissatisfied, that's always good.
-
Good work :)

Bet that new snow blower got a work out... :)
-
Looks like Minnesota! It was -20°f here yesterday morning. -11°f this morning. I have family in Bryne, I would love to visit them in Norway someday.
-
Received a set of cabinet scrapers in the mail with a burnishing hardened steel rod. Took my glue-up form out of the attic. Added stealth strips to my rock climbing harness and new ascender for hunting and then I watched football. It was 11 degrees in the garage and I didn't feel like paying to heat it up to 60.

:campfire:
-
Hang in there Robert, you will be back to normal before you know it.
Normal? :biglaugh:
Nice wood
-
I got bad news yesterday from the MRI. Bone spur and partial rotator cuff tear. Going to need surgery. Not happy about this.
-
Sorry Roy.
Suppose we all have it coming.
Those guys and gals are pretty skilled with their knives and grinders though...they'll get ya goin again.
-
Sorry to hear that Roy. Hopefully they can get it done soon and prayers for healing and recovery for you.
-
Roy thats not something to look forward to but when you heal up you'll feel so much better and finally be able to shoot those bows you build
-
Roy, on the bright side, something can be done about it!
-
hope your operation is a real success Roy, and you then will have a strength to pull back a real bow!!! :biglaugh: :biglaugh:
-
Hang in there, Roy. Your grandson's bow is looking nice.
I finished the bow rack my daughter gave me for Christmas. I'm running out of wall space...
-
Well Roy, you should ask the doc if he wants to borrow your newly sharpened rasps for the job!
Took my favorite bow out to shoot for the first time since I stripped it down to refinish it back in July. Man, I love this bow. I've been struggling with a really nice bow I got from Dave Miller, but I made this yew one just the way I like it and that's hard to beat. First arrows I've slung in 2 months, and I was happy with how I shot and ecstatic with how well the arrows seemed to fly and how quiet everything was on the shot out in the woods. Had a great stump shoot after a few rounds at the target but. Great way to end an otherwise productive day!
-
Sorry to hear that Roy.
But if ya got to get it done, this is a good time of the year for it.
-
Suck it up ya big wuss. If ya woulda been shooting men's bows all these years, yer shoulders would been able to handle it.
-
Glued down a trilam, Bamboo, Purpleheart and white Oak with Smooth-On. Straight limb with sligthly backset. These spring clamps have a heavy bite and the pivoting jaws have a concave surface so they fit on the rounded bamboo back.

Roy, my wife had the same surgery several years ago and it worked out fine for her.
wish you a speedy recovery and will keep you in my prayers.
-
I glued some snake skins on a Vine Maple bow today. I'm making myself a new 3D target bow.

-
Bue, you need one more clamp on that
Roy, you are tough old bird, you got this
-
Nice Bue..
Thanks guys..
-
Good luck Roy. Maybe if you slip the doc a little cash he can do a nip/tuck while he's got the knife out.
-
If a bow breaks and scares you half to death, but what happens if you get scared half to death twice? I'ts Friday. :)
-
Lol!!!!
-
I always wanted to video a bow being worked on the tree and have it explode.
Well not really, but that would be neat to see.. LMAO
-
Roy, good luck and I hope you heal quickly. I am feeling better from my tumor removal back on the 5th..I got a few shots off a week ago, I am going to shoot a little tomorrow.. I got in the shop yesterday, refinishing a longbow, satin to gloss finish.. I really put the satin on thick and I'm getting a good work out hand sanding the glass. Gonna use a mouse sander on the edges and riser..
-
Thanks Robert, I get the surgery this coming Wednesday Feb 3rd. I am looking forward to it, can't wait to get this shoulder working again...
-
Good luck and best wishes to you both. Bue
-
Get that chicken wing fixed Roy!
-
I sincerely wish you both a fast and as painless as possible recovery.
Roy...if ya want to see one explode I could always send ya one of my bows.
-
I still haven't found all the pieces of a bow that exploded on the tree a couple of years ago.
Ok, I have a messy shop...
It certainly was exciting though. :knothead:
Heal up fast Roy.
Dave.
-
hope you recover quickly Roy and get back to pulling those 20# bows with ease!

This is my second try at this pattern sander.
I first had it mounted to 3/4" plywood, the rub collar was epoxyed to the frame of the sander.
The sanding belt would creep down and rub on the collar, it got hot enough it melted the epoxy. The plywood warped also, and the shaft wanted to slip in the drill chuck. I have 3 flat on the shaft now.
I think I will have better luck this time.

The robo sander works good but I can get more grit size's for this

-
Nothing ventured ,nothing gained.. :)
-
Interesting that you used the sanding unit from a ridgid sander Mark. Ralph Morris helped modify my ridgid sander so it doesn't occilate anymore and it works great as a pattern sander. Heres a Sander build a long (http://tradgang.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=125;t=012533#000000)
-
I tried to make mine not oscillate and smoked the motor, so I went to plan B and now plan C.
I saw your build a long when it came out , good job
-
I canibalized my oscillating spindle sander after I went through 3 motors and adapted the parts to my drill press.
Then I began, mentally, to adapt it, without changing drum size, to a Robosander and haven't figured it out yet.
But Mark, that simple little curved piece of metal you have bolted to your table instead of Robo's wheel and bearing, is a very good alternative, and I may work off of that. Thank you.
-
Today I started two more bows.... bamboo backed trilams. That's all I can say.
-
cool
-
Didn't happen without pictures Bowjunkie....
-
Posting pictures here is a p.i.t.a.
Got one glued up and in the oven.

Yesterday I dropped a bunch of giant old dead oaks at the archery range. Boom! Kinda fun being out there in the stillness with the snow all around and letting one of those monsters crash to the forest floor. A bit sad too, but gotta keep the range safe.
Today I introduced a young man to traditional archery and he loved it. I enjoyed shooting along with him as he got the hang of it. He did well. I expect to see more of him.
Today my friend dropped a Corolla off at the neighbor's house for me to surprise DU1 with on her birthday tomorrow. After I got back from the range, I went up to wash the salt off it from its trip down. Unfortunately with another ridiculous school delayed start, I likely won't be home when she wakes up and finds it.
Today I went down to the shop and started laying out what I'm gonna do for my swap bow. I think I might make a two piece. Need to try something new each year, and I've been wanting to make a two piece longbow for me for awhile. Figure best to practice on this poor bloke first though!
Today I've also been cleaning the house in preparation for my wife coming home. I pick her up at the airport later this evening. My standards are a bit lower than hers, but yesterday would have been a good day to clean up even on my standards. But then I'd have to redo today, so we let it slide one more day and now it's starting to get to me.
Today our snow has been melting like crazy. Our 26" has been reduced to somewhere between 8" and bare spots and everything is a muddy frickin' mess! My thermometer climbed close to 70 degrees at one point.
-
I had a lazy day today. I twisted up a string for my niece's bow since the one on it is a spare for a hunting bow of mine. Then I did some carving on a panel I'm doing for a buddy who's getting married soon.
Nice quiet day for a change.
Dave.
-
After my "day" job I spray finished a longbow with Krystal Gloss..just cut up 1/2 of a backstrap marinated it with Korean Bulgogi BBQ sause..its cooking now, gonna cook a sweet potato and make a Ceasear Salad..

This drill Press was made in 1975, in Taiwan.
I bought it in 1989 and it set in the corner never to get used, until I started bow making.
(http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/b593/osagemark/100_0807.jpg) (http://s1293.photobucket.com/user/osagemark/media/100_0807.jpg.html)
It has 12 speeds. I never know what speed I am on
(http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/b593/osagemark/100_0808.jpg) (http://s1293.photobucket.com/user/osagemark/media/100_0808.jpg.html)
So I bought this RPM thing from *ba* for 13.00
You put reflective tape that comes with it and start changing speeds
(http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/b593/osagemark/100_0809.jpg) (http://s1293.photobucket.com/user/osagemark/media/100_0809.jpg.html)
so I drew all 12 scenario on my CAD and printed it off
The first speed I checked is where I have been running my robo sander 1474 rpm and that is 1192 feet per minute.
Now I know what RPM I am going, also I Have my feet per minute. :jumper:

I never know what speed I am on
LOL
-
sometimes I get burns, then I try to slow it down
:banghead:
My Grizzly edge sander is 1800 FPM
-
Almost have a new bow ready for glue up. Going to try a dry run tomorrow and if everything is set it will be in the hot box by the afternoon cooking away.
-
Don't think I'll be building any bows for a while. This sucks...
-
Roy you'll feel better soon and you may finally hit something with that wing fixed. :archer2:
-
good luck Roy.
Keep up with the physical therapy.
It isn't much fun..but in general they know what they're talking about.

-
X2 on the PT. When I was 16, my hunting buddy shot me through the thigh with a broad head off a compound. 1/4" from the femoral artery, I am lucky to be here. Some muscles were cut and just healed over detached, other muscles were atrophied after wound healed, took a lot of work to build it back. PT can be tedious, but worth the tedium.
-
Dang Roy, I suppose you'll be only consuming half as much beer now that you can only use one hand. You should start drinking something with twice the octane to make up the difference.
-
Thanks guys.. Canopyboy, I hain't had a beer in 10 days....
-
why not?
..need a one handed can opener?
-
I'm sure you will be alright Roy, best wishes. Bus :coffee:
-
Thanks Bus.. LOL
I quit the beer because of the surgery and I need to lose a few pounds around the waist... :) Lost 5 pounds so far...
-
...there's got to be a better way Roy.
..but good luck to ya anyway bud.
-
Way to go Roy! Keep up the great work!
Cleaned up a bow that came out of the oven last night. Got the limb profile started and got some minor tweaking. Tomorrow will add the tip overlays.

-
Very nice work!
-
Nice!! What did you use for the white stripes?
-
Dang that's Purdy Justin!
-
Got another toy today... a jet edge sander. I haven't used it yet. I need to shuffle some things around in the shop and find a place for it, but I'll be making dust with it in the next day or two.
That thing's heavy.
-
Beach it is curly maple... Super white for some reason but will take a gold color with finish
-
 on the riser
Roy- quite the immobilizer. You still have your good looks
-
That is a very nice riser. :)
-
Sweet Justin.
-
Justin,
That riser is sharp!
Not sure if you wet it down for the photo, but that maple has a beautiful amount of curl.
Nice job!

Took the sling and bandages off this morning and did the first set of exercises. Made the shoulder sore and tight but that's to be expected. Gonna take my first shower since Wednesday real soon this morning. I want my arm back.. :)
-
I bet you do Roy.
Good luck bud!
-
Mr Roy, I hope you heal quickly and completely.
-
Stay with the PT Roy. And I bet Chris will like that shower more than you! :biglaugh:
I started on a 58" turkey blind bow...
-
Picked up some poster board to lay out a new 3 piece bow I've been contemplating for months. Got a guy with a Cnc cutting out a couple different riser templates. Gonna have a small fortune in it and ain't even glued up the first piece yet! Lol.
-
Great fun ain't it Randy? LOL

Yes sir! Gonna build 3-4 sets of limbs with different tapers to get the best tiller and feel. Then start trying to figure specs for different length bows, then ect.......... :banghead: There's a lot worse things I could spend money on! Lol
-
Critterglitter, something always told me you was a poster board kind of guy.. LMAO :)
-
Finished up my biggest bow save thus far. For some reason I had a bow that developed horrible streaks. This happened quite awhile ago and I decided to chance it with some new glass and go for a fix. Here is the before. This was along both belly and back of the entire limbs.
(http://i1073.photobucket.com/albums/w394/cunruhsurf/Bow%20Making/1d427a5ca7e440c0fce9610bbcb6d99d.jpg) (http://s1073.photobucket.com/user/cunruhsurf/media/Bow%20Making/1d427a5ca7e440c0fce9610bbcb6d99d.jpg.html)
I removed the glass from back and belly very slowly and carefully with a heat gun. I did not damage the veneers at all then reglued new glass.
And the finished product. I am happy to report that it shoots awesome and seems to be holding up nice.

Hang in there Roy
-
Hey Roy you got a whole lot a brothers cheering you on. Stay encouraged. I look forward to a picture of you at full draw!
-
I finally gave the bows I built to my niece and nephew. It was a little above freezing so we went out into the yard and shot a few. My brother in law even grabbed a bow and joined us.
Good way to spend an afternoon after working 7 hours of OT this morning.
Dave.

Worked on my new bow some. It's the sister to the bow I hunted this fall

Nice bend.

I guess it's ok.... :)

Looks really OK Justin. You are getting really good at this bowbuilding !
-
Hi guys,
finally got some time to work on my homemade drum sander. All that's left to do is to make spring loaded rollers and dust extraction. Hope to have it finished by the end of weekend, so I can start grinding some lams.
Here is short video https://youtu.be/JJtO9DNNG4Q
Hope you get well soon Roy.
Zdeněk
-
Nicely done Zdenek! That looks like it will work well for you
-
Thanks, Zdenek.
That's a neat drum sander you built..
-
Shot my turkey hunting bow, shoots great, quiet...
NOT liking how the finishing is going, it may end up flat black before its over...
-
Pics Kenny? Which one you shooting this year?
-
It's a brand new one. All curly maple dyed dark. Ain't working to suit me on riser...
-
Thanks Roy, it took a lot longer to make than expected, but I think it will be worth it. It can sand 16" wide and up to 5" thick. It has 1100w 220v motor and the belt has adjustable speed control from zero to 4' per minute and is mounted on 4 threaded shafts so it can be finely adjusted in 0,002" increments.
Here is photo of it almost completed.
-
That's pretty sweet right there! Well done.
-
Nice..
-
Cool sander, kristalik !!
Can you use a drill with a socket to speed the raising of table when you need to go several inches?
-
Roy, how's the shoulder feeling?
-
Sore and tight, but a little better every day. It's only been 9 days since the surgery. Seen the doctor yesterday, she said about 4 months till I can shoot a bow. Start PT next week.
-
Well Roy can you still build bows? Hope so so you have something to release all that pent up orneryness!!!!!!! Or are the pain drugs keeping you civil if so I'm staying out of your way when they wear off.
-
Hi Kenny, yes I tried it and thanks god it works well, if it wasn't I would have to do 17 turns of the knob per inch  and it has quite a bit of resistance.
-
Nope Ben, can't even raise the arm up and out to my side till 4 weeks. Then it will be a little at a time after the 4 weeks. Being old and the tendon that tore is the tendon that raises the arm up I guess. So I need to be very careful not to tear it loose again. Been off the pain meds for a few days now. Them and I don't get along well..
-
I didn't do well with the pain drugs either, gave me some weird dreams!
-
Can only raise one arm? Must be tough to have to down those Lights one at a time!
-
Yup on the weird dreams, had a dream I was making a glass bow the other night. LOL
Monterey, LMAO... But I hain't had a beer in three weeks now...
-
Roy let me know if you have any questions about your PT. I worked outpatient PT here in oklahoma for 3 years and saw that surgery bout a 100 times lol. I do home health PT now.

I finally got the Dust Collection System Assembled.. A few small details remain, but its working!.. I expect this will help keep things clean.. Especially my lungs.!

Nice!! What's that weedeater doin in there??? :D
-
Pathfinder. I'm not sure what I envy the most; Is it the garage space or the apparatus???
... But I hain't had a beer in three weeks now...
Ditch the pills and have a beer! Heck, I'm on my 5th one right now. :biglaugh:
-
Of course... I'm only taking pictures of the Clean Side...
Its time to make some Sawdust!.. The weather sure is nice down here in Texas.. 82 degrees today.. ha!
That darn weed eater is never where it belongs..!
-
Not funny pathfinder, 5 degrees here. LOL
-
82 degrees :( it is - 2 C here and snow. Do you have a spare room? :)
-
Yikes.. Roy, I hope you have a heck of a good fire going.
-2 C ! Bue, will a bow even bend when its that cold?
I'll just be Thanking my Lucky Stars that I'm down here where its warm enough to get outside..
Bue, the population of Texas grows this time every year.. These "Winter Texans", are people the live in Cold Country, but come here for the climate.. And the BBQ...
Bring yer bow..
-
It was -9 here yesterday when I left for work. 7 above here now, but windy.
-
Hmmm 75 here today. Time to work on
On my tan :bigsmyl:

I broke ground on the new shed. 12x16 with 8 foot sidewalls.

Nice shop Path, just out of curiosity do you do other wood working besides Bowyering.?
-
Shot my turkey rig in shop and thought about a paint scheme for it.....
Oh, put up some trail cams.
-
Hey Bowjunkie, show the guys the hickory boards....
-
like the arrow string stakes ewok
-
Ok Roy. Today I took these pignut hickory logs to my buddy's sawmill.
-
And turned them into these... as much quarter sawn and rift sawn lumber as possible, with 8 selfbow staves, and some flatsawn heartwood for glassbow lams thrown in too. They are just over 6' long and at least 2" thick.
-
Sweet...
-
I also have a 40" piece off of the bigger log that I need to split into billets tomorrow. And a 12" piece off the shorter one that I'll split/cut into riser blocks.
Got another tree to cut down yet too. Gonna be busy for a while
-
You can see those cutoffs behind the trailer on the right side.
-
Now I need to go get some osage.
-
Made some new bending jigs. (http://i1181.photobucket.com/albums/x438/lead955/New%20Bow/5778CA05-8CDA-46CD-9DB4-50CE670D283E_zpstwanmiyq.jpg) (http://s1181.photobucket.com/user/lead955/media/New%20Bow/5778CA05-8CDA-46CD-9DB4-50CE670D283E_zpstwanmiyq.jpg.html)

-
Wow, all that straight Hickory, I'm envious. :)
-
Don't be. It probably won't be that straight once it's dry :(
-
Glued up a bow Thursday night and I have the limbs all rough shaped. Red and gray glass with walnut lams and a myrtle riser.
-
Found a 4 point shed, and painted part of my turkey bow.
-
Not wif out pichers ya didn't..
-
I broke up my garden spot and fed my honey bees. Dang it, got stung on the ankle. :banghead:
And....I saw Kenny's shed he found.
-
Not wif out pichers ya didn't..
-
cut some pretty veneers from Walnut Burl and Maple Burl for a set of limbs..had a hard time deciding which to use. I went with the Dark Walnut Burl veneers. I worked on a longbow I shelved last year due to streaky glass..I taped off the riser and limb edges...then mixed some black "trans tint" into some Krystal dull and sprayed the glass with it..it looks good! I will hit it with clear tomorrow..

Today I spotted an osage tree growing on a steep river bank. I could tell by the bark that it would have thick rings. It was 15" across and had very young looking bark.
(http://i666.photobucket.com/albums/vv22/Outlawstaves/20160220_154818_zpssnmbieu5.jpg) (http://s666.photobucket.com/user/Outlawstaves/media/20160220_154818_zpssnmbieu5.jpg.html)
Just as I thought. They don't get much better than this.

I quartered it up and carried it 40 yards up a 45 degree river bank. I wouldn't have messed with it if it wasn't for those perfect growth rings. They made it worth the effort. I carried the stump out as well. I put it in front of my garage as an osage decoration.

Went for a walk today on the land I hunt. It's my mission this year to find some sheds from the deer I pursue. Well I was pumped to not only find one shed but find two of them.

Save me a couple if you can please. :jumper:
-
What day are you getting there?
-
Thursday
-
Ok. I'll have plenty then.
-
Today I got a box in the mail. It was 6 rattle snake skins I bought off of the big auction site. They were dried and rolled up. The seller was afraid to unroll them. He thought they needed soaked in tanning solution. I had no idea what they looked like but for only $22 I figured it was worth the risk. I think I did OK on the deal. I soaked them in water for a while and then tacked them down to dry flat.

Score
Nice skins

Finished up a set of ILF limbs I started last weekend. Dark Brown Walnut Burl veneers, Red Elm taper all under clear glass, red and black tips. 43# on a 17" Morrison Phoenix2 riser. Strung it up, 1/16" positive tiller, It pulls straight..no problems. Taking it to a 3D shoot tomorrow..so the first shots will be on the range..I'll get some pictures tomorrow. Wet sanded a longbow this morning when it was 40 degrees out..shaped a set of Black Glass limbs I'm building for a DAS riser, got the overlays on and called it a day. I cooked polish sausage and Swiss Chard for supper, Helen did the dishes...
-
Robert, you got a lot done!
Looking forward to some pics of the bow.
I've been in Florida when the temperature is 40 and the humidity is 95. Downright bone chilling!
-
Made a diabolical deer killing plan for the lease. Picked a great pinoak tree and gonna pull some saplings with my skidder/tree puller in 3 lanes from it, then plant white clover in lanes.
My lease hunters may thank me or curse me.... :D
-
Nice skins. :)
-
Scrub, you absolutely STOLE those skins! Well done.
I've been out in the shop all day, cleaning, and then shaping a test bow. I put it on the tillering tree and gave it a few preliminary tugs and took some notes.
-
Went to a local bow shoot today, got to shoot the new walnut burl veneer limbs and zebrawood riser/black limb longbow I finished last week, both in the middle (http://i596.photobucket.com/albums/tt46/Robertfishes/LHbowtree_zps6qxzdfec.jpg) (http://s596.photobucket.com/user/Robertfishes/media/LHbowtree_zps6qxzdfec.jpg.html) of picture.

I hope you remembered the evil laugh when you got done. ;)

Took a 7 mile hike around some new area on land that I hunt. Found some awesome hunting ground and places to keep an eye on during the upcoming year.
Found a nice shed too....

Got started on the a lam grinder. Was planning on going to HD this morning for materials but I went for a stroll last night and discovered a neighbor was tossing out some material perfectly suited to the project. A courtesy knock confirmed that I was welcome to take it away!
Pic's to follow.

Progress so far. More today if the weather holds up in the "shop". :)

Dang, it was there
Maybe it needs resizing.

Strange, it shows on my desk top but not on the phone.
Heres another try.

Hain't no wonder yer bows are always crooked, look at that yard stick.. :)
-
Roy he uses that on snaky bows LOL
-
Well, Roy, you've been begging to see my Rigid, so there you go :biglaugh:
Ben, that there is funny.
Of course my yardstick is rough. It only gets used in the yard.
Wind is gusting to 50 MPH in the "shop" today.... Guess I'll do my nails :)

Here ya go Mikie..

Went to the arrow shaft warehouse and got me some arras.

after work I fixed some scratches on a friends bow..then I spray finished a longbow, its a hand rubbed extra glossy finish, so I slowed my gun stroke and..got two runs to sand out tomorrow morning..ya I hate glossy finish.
-
Gee thanks, Roy. I picked this one. It's called "Wife Goes On"
Wish I had an arrow warehouse like that in my neigborhood.
-
Very nice, David...
-
Kinda spooky how Roy knew exactly what to recommend for your nails...lol
I got my tip overlays on and shaped and my overlay on my riser done (bow swap bow) hopefully get a string on it tommorow and check poundage
-
I look forward to Roy's full recovery. He needs to be kept busy. Maybe we should caucus and select a delegation to appeal to his wife to reign him in. :biglaugh:
-
Worked a little bit today on my Eastern Woodland style selfbow, put the short string on it and put it so it was braced tight against the bow and am tillering it further, one limb is stiffer than the other with the other limb at perfect tiller within itself (so far).
Gonna get the other limb bending perfectly at this shorter brace, then brace it up further. Right now she's 50# @ 17" on the low brace. And tiller is looking good. Can't wait to get 'er finished up!
-
Got cut at work picking up a broken toilet and had to get stitched up. Porcelain would make one fine knapped arrowhead, barely grazed it with my forearm and it sliced me good.
(http://i1075.photobucket.com/albums/w439/jomohr84/Mobile%20Uploads/20160308_165802.jpg) (http://s1075.photobucket.com/user/jomohr84/media/Mobile%20Uploads/20160308_165802.jpg.html)
-
Ouch, hope you heal up soon.
-
It does make decent knapped heads. I have 5 gallon buckets full of it for that purpose.
-
Ouch! That's gonna leave a mark.
I'll bet it feels like crap.
-
that would piss me off...hope you heal quickly..
-
you guys crack me up :clapper:
-
Nice stitches. They have a toilet bowl knapping contest at the Classic each year. The points that those guys make from a broken toilet are amazing.
I found an old dead osage tree with some interesting grain :D I can't wait to make a bow from this stuff.

Beautiful veneers. They sure would look good in a recurve.
I finished off a small taxidermy base this afternoon, then I dug out my bow woods to get started on a couple or 3 new ones. I planed some bamboo, some palm and some lovely tight grained yew. Now to sit back and think about what to build.
Dave.
-
David, those are sure nice looking, very well done sir.
-
Fantastic David....

Been waiting on templates to be made for my takedown design. Started a Hill style bow with leftover materials since I have been in the mood to build. Hoping that it will be around 40-45# so that I can use the bow to work on form and for target practice.
Sure has been nice being back at it...
-
Finally got around to shaping the Ipe for the BBI I'm building for a buddy. I had assumed I would use the big band saw at the shop, but when I arrived it was opened up and missing the blade. The shop guy suggested I try the table saw. So I set up my 0.002 taper sled on the fence, stuck the Ipe board to it with double sided tape, and let it rip. Sure cut fast and clean! It cut through ipe better than my returned 9" band saw cut through soft pine. Of course, I had to stop a couple inches short of the handle, and I will need to finish that next time with the band saw and spindle sander. But that will be quick and then I can glue up.
-
Nice log Clint
-
Hi guys,
Yesterday I finally got my drum sander finished and groun some lams. Was very surprized how acurate it is. Diference in thickness oo ends was only 0.01mm which is about 0.0004". Here is video https://youtu.be/iqSIn3duV6g

Very nice! What is bootee?
-
Pathfinder 22. That is a really nice looking bow. Any specs, total length and length between fade outs?
I am pleased to see that someone else is getting some of that white stuff also. Bue--.
-
I picked up a rt hand Bear Super Grizzly yesterday on Craigslist for $50. It has some use scratches but otherwise in great shape. I wiped it down with denatured alcohol and most of it came off so they were paint scuffs. Shoots pretty good even though the string is a rope thats too long. So want to make a new string and then shoot it through the chronograph. Bear did a good job on these looking at the FD curve it stores pretty good energy so it will be interesting to see how much it transfers to the arrow. I'll do some more clean up work on it then probably sell it as its a right hander.
Here are two force draw curves for the Griz. One for 28" and one for 30". Now if the wind settles down I'll try to get some chronograph readings.
28"

30" starts to stack

Pathfinder, that is a sweet looking bow.
Nice combinations of wood. Is that a KennyM design?
Roy, here is my plan. Come on out, and I, using cans of Coors light as strategically placed bait, will provide you with a shovel with which you can dig your way to your prize. Maybe I'll call myself a Physical Therapist and charge you a fee to boot! :)
-
Congrats, Jon
-
Well the 46.6# super grizzly shot a 460 gr arrow 175 fps at 28". Not too shabby for a stock bow.
-
I guess that's ok..
-
AHH.. Yeah.. I'll be more carefull with my typo's around here..!
That was supposed to be BoCote..! But I like Bootee too... ha!
That bocote bow was 60" and pulls 54# @ 28..
The Riser is 20" to the end of the fades. We tried something new this time, to create the riser. We sliced the bocote and gaboon into 1/8" laminations. After careful sanding, we glued the lams together on the bow form to get a perfect fit along the back of the riser.. It did require a little extra work, but It worked great. The idea allowed us to build a bow from some odd leftover pieces of this wood. We have a few more on the bench made the same way.
This next one is a Wenge Riser with a heart piece of Gaboon.. The limbs are super nice english yew with lots of "pips' and figure. I'm super pleased with this bow.! Smooth Axis Antler for the limb tips..
60", 48 lbs @ 28" 20" Riser..

Like your bow style
-
NICE job Jeff!!
-
Heat treated my Cherokee D-Bow yesterday, so now I am waiting for that to get back to normal MC.
Tonight I sat down and started turning some Khaki Campbell duck feathers, that I got from two of our males from our flock (they were trying to kill the females romantically), into fletching. I took an old cane arrow that my bowyer mentor gave me that doesn't fly good with anything I shoot and fletched it up the way the Cherokees did it with the Khaki Campbell feathers and it looks great!
-
Thanks Very Much Ben and Kenny..!
Its been a really fun adventur, shared with my son..
We have a few other forms..
Just glued up a blank on a new form design. Fingers crossed that it performs as well as expected. We've been chasing a few improvements..
-
Very nice Jeff! :clapper:
-
started on a set of ILF recurve limbs this afternoon. Maple burl veneers, amberboo taper and parallel, zebrawood wedge. Using a 002/inch taper in this set instead of the 003/inch taper rate I have been using. Gonna glue up the first limb tomorrow afternoon..
-
Hope you can give a detailed analysis of the difference between the two tapers. Pic's too, of course. :)
-
Very sharp, Jeff.
-
I pulled a tri-lam out of the clamps after work and reaffirmed that I can be such a bonehead sometimes. During the glue up, a belly lam slipped a bit so I undid the clamps on that side to re adjust it. I put all the clamps back on and left it to cure for about 28 hours. As I pulled the clamps today, I found the most critical clamp on that side had been left loose. The clamp that induced the deflex/reflex for that limb. As a result, one limb has a deeper reflex than the other. :knothead:
It looks like I can still turn out a shooter, but I have to think about how to make it look good.
Dave.

Some points I made yesterday using antler and stone tools.

Crazy cool cutting tools
-
Nice!
-
Man, I wish I could do that! That's old school, and it's awesome!
-
Takes more than play scissors, glitterson.. :)
-
Is that the voice of experience???
-
got a set of ILF limbs shaped today..peeled off the belly tape to peek at the Maple Burl veneer.. its purty, no pics though. Ran some 1/16" black phenolic thru my mini drum sander for the limb butt and tip overlays..
-
Close to finishing a new ASL form. Old one was made of chip board and swelled up too wide.
-
One more PT visit and I graduate... Still have to be careful, no heavy lifting and no shooting a bow for another couple months...
-
Roy - Will you be able to shoot by the time Marsh Hill rolls around?
-
I'm hoping too but depends on what the doctor says. I don't want to tear it apart again...
-
Glad to hear it Roy! :clapper:
-
Good to hear Roy.
Sounds like you have the right mindset....listen to the Doc.
Hate to screw up the process when you're so close to the end.
-
Roy, Let me know if you need a light weight glass backed bow. I can build you a kennym design D/R longbow.
-
I might have to change my name... I was working on a set of limbs this afternoon when a guy I know pulled into my yard..he said you want to sell your boat? I said "No" but I'll take $xxxx cash for it...well, it's his now..I only have my 12" jon boat and a broken paddle now..
-
Thanks Robert, I'll keep that in mind..
-
Yea, It might be hard to fish outta a 12" boat! Better go ahead and change that name!
-
Critter, I bought the 12' boat in 1984 and had a 7.5hp engine and a 24# thrust trolling motor on the front..I used it in small lakes and ponds where a trailered boat could not get into..I caught 1000s of bass and speckled perch in that boat.. the boat I just sold was 23' with a 115hp Yamaha used mostly for bow fishing Tilapia.. I'm gonna buy a new 50# thrust for the 12' and look at getting a "nucanoe" or something similar for bass fishing or fishing the coastal flats..
-
Hey Robert, I was just giving you a hard time about the typo in your post. You had a 12 inch boat not a 12 foot. I meant absolutely no disrespect in any way. The best boat I ever had was a 12' jon boat I used for duck hunting flooded timber. Got it in places other hunters couldn't go.
-
Real duck hunters wear hip boots...
-
Critter I didnt take any offence. I seem to be going back to my roots..I used to fish several times a week, the last few years it been about 4 times per year.. Raining here with lightning right now..We are having my Dads 80th birthday party later today..I rented a room at a local Restaurant, no cooking or dish washing for me today..
-
Roy, this is a grown up conversation, so be quiet. Lol
I hear ya on the lack of fishing. I used to fish with my father in law almost every weekend. But I havnt even been this year so far. Life has a way of keeping you so busy that you don't even have a life anymore!
Tell your father I said "happy birthday" !!!!
-
Just read your PM smarty pants... :)
-
Didn't do anything in the shop today. Took some of the grandkids fishing. Turned out to be a fun tour of the "circles of life" :)

Cool pictures, Mike. Where were ya fishing?
I graduated PT today... I flew through all the exercises like I never had surgery.. :) But I still need to be careful for a month or so longer...

No just throwing power bait to last year's stockers. It's only five minutes from the house and always abig deal with the kids. It's Arvada Reservoir. The city's water supply.
I didn't catch anything!

Square head steamer. In order to steam a half stave at a time I made this one. Insulated PVC pipe one meter long, worked like a charm, after half an hour the stave bent nicely.

cool!
I saw a neat vid a while back (someone may have posted it here), a ship builder was using long plastic "bags" almost like a meat vacuum packing bag for steaming.

Good job Roy! You'll be back to your normal bow weight of 12# before you know it!! :D :D

Started on a set of ILF limbs today, Zebrawood wedge and veneers, amberboo tapers. Yes Sir! :)

I've been working on a jig to grind risers. I free-handed the hole and cut a donut out of a propane bottle for the guide.
I'll be practicing on some scrap wood!

While researching the sirius riser on another forum I found that Lancaster Archery had a rh victor riser on sale for $29.99 so I ordered one. Got my victor riser this morning and put my 50# sage limbs on it. They fit perfect and bolt right in. I only had a string that was 1" too long so the brace height is too low. It appears to make a 66" to 67" bow. Had to run so only did a quick FD curve and will build a new string tomorrow and get a new FD curve and if its clear I'll shoot it through the chrono. I may have found a way to get rid of these sage limbs. Wish they would have had a left handed one because the limb pad angle would work with my longbow limbs
Here's a picture of the riser from lancaster its a 24" riser and a picture of the fd curve which I will redo once I have time to build a shorter string.
Picture of the 24" riser

Here's the quick FD curve
(http://i.imgur.com/S6G9WwF.jpg)
-
I guess it's ok... :)
-
OK I built a new string and the bow ended up at 66" nock to nock and 49.43 lbs at 28". The six shot average with fingers and 28" draw was 165 fps with a 510 grain arrow for 10.32 gr per pound. It has a 12 strand 63" UltraCam string. Brace height was 7.5". It would make a good cheap starter bow or an upgrade from a youth bow. Stats and FD curve

Went to see a house on an acre of nice land this afternoon. Then I threw my work clothes into the wash and sorted through my turkey hunting gear. I can't wait till next weekend when my buddies gather at turkey camp for the opening week. :archer:
After my gear was sorted, I did some indoor shooting at my turkey target. Hopefully, I'll have a bird come into my comfort zone next week.
Dave.

well what i did today was put my Board bow on the fire. well what was left of it. so i aint going to try any more I'm done.
-
Ah come on Jeff... Heck we've all burnt a few bows... :)
-
Quitters never win, Jeff! If you ain't breaking them you ain't making them. :scared:
-
My wife wanted kind of triangular boxes to grow vegetables and flowers in, like pieces cut from a round cake. Six of them shall be placed around a Walnut tree like a round cake. So A nice guy of course complies with her wish.

Thanks,I like using Burl veneer, first time I have used Chestnut Burl. I am planning on using them for 3D target shooting..Thinking about using Royal Ebony (Black/white) in the next limb set, in Hunting weight..

So cool

Very nice, love any Burl veneer

My Brother in Law suddenly died a week ago. He was an awesome husband to my sister for 30 years and father of their 4 children. I havnt been in my shop since his passing. I think later today I'll open the doors and see if I can get started on a set of New limbs.
-
Prayers for the family Robert
-
Got started on a set of ILF long limbs today. I got some clear glass that looks pretty clear..so I am gonna use some "Royal Ebony" veneer in my next set of limbs..I got the veneers cut, glass cut and taped, started on the wedges but quit so I could warm up some Venison stew for supper.. (http://i596.photobucket.com/albums/tt46/Robertfishes/royal%20ebony_zps3gvkdkjt.jpg) (http://s596.photobucket.com/user/Robertfishes/media/royal%20ebony_zps3gvkdkjt.jpg.html)
-
That's going to make some nice looking limbs!!
-
Man, Robert, sorry to hear that.
-
So sorry Robert. Prayers for the family.
-
Well, today I logged into TG for the first time in a couple weeks. I don't know when I was in the shop last or even when I picked up my bow last.
Looks like there's lots of catching up to do. And I don't just mean on TG posts. Probably need to work on the whole work life balance thing a bit more.
-
Got it done yesterday with my longbow!
(http://i1177.photobucket.com/albums/x344/bowhntineverythingnh03743/B0171C0C-CA4B-42CC-B334-2D84FCCB892F.jpg) (http://s1177.photobucket.com/user/bowhntineverythingnh03743/media/B0171C0C-CA4B-42CC-B334-2D84FCCB892F.jpg.html)
-
Wow, that is one big bird allright and some nice tail feathers.
-
Which one is the turkey? :)
-
Way to go Justin!
Dave - The solution to your problem is simple - work less. You're a government worker. You won't get fired.
-
Congrats Justin! That is exciting for sure.
I ordered up some green glass and green future wood riser wood. Going for a retro bow look with this one.
-
Fancy fletching for sure. Can't beat a wild bird for taste. The smile tells the story.
-
What is more important to keep in the fridge, Unibond 800 or the usual stuff? I have no doubt, but my woman is not so sure.
(http://i1289.photobucket.com/albums/b506/timian46/image_zpshl9pdudv.jpeg) (http://s1289.photobucket.com/user/timian46/media/image_zpshl9pdudv.jpeg.html)
-
LMAO.. :)
-
I'd stick with IMODIUM.
-
When I got home from work this afternoon, I found a big bag that the mailman delivered. Inside was almost two pounds of tanned seal skin remnants that I ordered a few days ago.
Seal skin makes really slick arrow rests and strike plates and it looks cool on a bow too.
I'll be putting some on my swap bow.
:archer:
Dave.

Yesterday I started work on a riser I had glued up last winter for my TD longbow that I hunted with last year.
Glued the first one up with some suspect EA-40 and have paid for it.
After a couple repairs, I just made a new blank out of phenolic and bocote and started fitting limbs to it yesterday.
-
https://goo.gl/photos/7aRT2jnJcpN6mPL69 <---pic in link Worked on this little bow for my munchkin.. trying to see how artsy I am... not very lol
-
I was at a stoplight today and a guy ran into the back of my work truck at about 20 mph??..Thankfully its a 2003 full size chevy with a steel bumper..I have a little headache and sore lower back so I was unable to work in my shop after work today.. I have a 40# longbow sitting on my bench ready to glue up.
-
Tonight I spent 2 hours on a skinning job. Ended up with 11 splices and nothing but little scraps left when I was done. You guys are only getting a teaser picture.

I set out to grind lams for the next ASL. Still one taper short. I. Messed up a lot of wood but have the process pretty well mastered now.
There is a lot to be said for sourcing lams from a pro. :biglaugh:
-
Check out what I found! Couldn't pass this guy up after someone ran him over right outside of my neighbor hood. Skin was perfectly intact too! I dodge em or save em if I can, but if they are already gonners I don't like letting them go to waste.

79 inches. That's a snake!! One thing I Don't miss from Oklahoma!!
I do miss the dramatic weather but prayers for all those caught up in the recent storms.
-
Nice black rat snake. They look great on an osage bow
-
Redonefive that is a beautiful bow. Where in the Panhandle are you. We moved from Alliance 10+ years ago.
-
Scrub buster I am glad you called this a rat snake, we have really big bull snakes around here that have the same pattern but are greenish. I have gone back and forth between calling this kind a rat snake and a bull snake of dark coloring. I'll stick with rat snake if that's the consensus.
-
BenBow, I'm here in Alliance.. I'm a SW Missouri Native, But came here 5 years ago for.. you guessed it... The Railroad... Might be leaving soon for the same reason. Things have taken a bad turn here with the economy and Coal regulations etc.. Anyhow, It's not a bad area, I prefer Chadron and Crawford though.. We do a lot of stump shooting in the ridge. Our muzzleloader club has a nice archery course/tourny during our rendezvous (Fur Trade Days)...
Thank you for the compliments on the bow as well, going to try to finish it up today and make a little string.. i wish i had ordered some red b50, but im too impatient to wait now lol..

That looks like a big black rat snake to me. Here is one I found a few years ago.

If you cut it one row of scales over from the belly you can save the belly scales and get 2 full length backings out of one snake. The belly scales look good on a bow.

I love that idea, I've never used a belly to skin a bow, does it lay down well? Can you get a good finish on it? That's a killer snake
-
The belly skin is thicker and I think it is similar to a thin rawhide backing and adds some protection to the back of the bow. Just like on the back skin, you have to remove the scales after you glue it down. I use a razor blade to get them loose. Here is a bow I made a few years back with black rat snake belly scales
(http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r55/clintanders/SDC14887.jpg)
And here is one that a friend of mine backed with them.

Worked on some bow's
I like this post
-
Sprayed some finish on the phenolic/bocote riser. Trying a new one this time. Was in parts store and noticed matte clear coat for wheels. Seems to be drying great on bocote without the shine of regular clearcoat. When I grow up I'm tryin buffalo hide.. . :D

I finished a D/R longbow for a friend Saturday night.. Now I can get busy on some ILF limbs for myself..
-
Tropical Storm Colin changed my afternoon bow building plans.. I was visiting my Dad in the Hospital and got a call that a tree was down and across the dirt road at my sisters house...Ya great, I'm the "go to guy" now that my dad is 80 and my brother in law suddenly passing 5 weeks ago..It was a Cherry tree but rotten in places and full of big Monkey vine. Well I have a good little Sthil 180 saw and used my Sisters Kubota tractor..of course it was raining..by the time I was done I was in 3-4 inches of water. I was all by myself, I used to do this kind of chore with my "healthy dad" and brother in law(RIP). I'm glad I got to spend time with them when we were all "young fellas"
-
passion for K, Thats a cool looking bow, nice job!
-
I've been working on a pair of ASLs. These were going to be constructed from lams ground myself but they were not good enough. I put an order in to Troy and received excellent lams. Can't say enough good about them.
But I took an extra long weekend to fish. As usual, the grandkids out did me. :)

I've been gluing layers of glass onto my friends 1970? Bear C riser the last week, it had delamed and cracked a few years ago. ..Today I put it on my belt and spindle sanders and got it rough shaped.. (http://i596.photobucket.com/albums/tt46/Robertfishes/bearcriser_zpsvcrywzyx.jpg) (http://s596.photobucket.com/user/Robertfishes/media/bearcriser_zpsvcrywzyx.jpg.html) (http://i596.photobucket.com/albums/tt46/Robertfishes/crackcriser_zpshr5jk2xd.jpg) (http://s596.photobucket.com/user/Robertfishes/media/crackcriser_zpshr5jk2xd.jpg.html)
-
Nice Robert. What did you spray it with? I have a C riser too which I'd like to refinish.
-
Roy I will use either T-bird or Krystal CV. I still have to sand the riser down to the wood and drill a hole For the stab bushing..pretty sure I will have trouble sanding the coin..I think I may need to remove it and use a solvent to clean it or??? I am going to research this before I work on it. This is a repair not a restoration..
-
I've been told not to use a solvent on the riser as it may cause delamination. I don't know what Bear sprayed those bows with, but it took me a long time to sand it off a pair of limbs. I'd imagine sanding the riser is going to be a chore..
-
Roy, I will pull the coin off the riser and clean the coin with some kind of solvent, no solvent on the riser.. I will use a mouse sander with 120 got paper to sand riser down then hand sand with 220 grit In the spots the mouse sander cannot reach.
-
I put finish on a BBB Blank from James Parker today.
Yes roy I will have pictures in a few days.
:p
-
I wrangled some osage today.

-
Making a one piece' grizzly' type 'curve.
-
Bob, I haven't shot a grizz but looking at pics, it looks like a really good design!
-
Today was fun. Spent 2 hours in the dentist chair getting a root canal. Ya know things aren't good when a professional with a microscope is having a bad day.
-
OUCH Roy!! Wife had one right after we got married, face was bruised and swelled. All the old ladies in town were on the warpath, just knew I was beating her!
-
I've had a few but today took the prize.
All I could think about was 2 more weeks and I can shoot a bow again.
-
no problems with me,I can take the lot out any time I want!! :bigsmyl: Kenny nearly got it done, got a work string on and sure is different to my takedowns.Power comes on early and stays there.55# seems heavier than my 58# takedown, but it does smackout an arrow.will post photos in day or so when I get a new string,as well as do a force draw curve.
-
Jeff, is that all PA osage? Should be a bunch of bows in that haul.
-
Yep. Cut it right out behind Roy's house :biglaugh:
-
Ya you son of a gun...
LOL
-
He'll never miss it, heck he don't even make bows anymore. :biglaugh:

Put the ILF longbow limbs I just built on the riser. Seem pretty good so far.....
-
Kenny how did you build your ilf longbow limbs to get decent prestress on them. Plus how do the perform.

Nice Bobby
-
Nice one Bob!!
Galen, I put about 1.5" more curve in than my TD limbs to get the nocks ahead of the riser an inch. It is a lot. The tips still show a lot of curve, but string isn't on the limbs, quite.
Haven't checked performance but it is 50# and the recurve limbs are 54# and the new limbs are showing same arrow weak, so will be good enough I think.
-
Cool Kenny. I've been thinking about modifying the ilf wedge so it will allow the limb to match the 10 degree limb pad angle of my three piece bow. It would be thicker where the wedge pivot point is. What do you think?
-
Bob that white glass really stands out. Nice bow!
-
Been thinking about that, can you get detent assemblies long enough? Maybe find a keeper screw a bit longer?
-
Good question Kenny, I'm just starting to look into this. Just have a lot going on right now.
-
Really Nice job on that one Pathfinder22
I like that Static Recurve too Bigbob
-
Kenny it might be simpler to add reflex right off the fade out rather than mess with the ilf wedge.
-
Pathfinder, Bob, you guys are doing some beautiful work.
-
thanks fellas, appreciated.Next one should be a stunner[think red and black palm]

I made another bow wood run yesterday, over to Ohio this time. I'm getting farther and farther behind. I need to stop fetching it and get it all split, stripped down, sealed, and put up.
-
Put a deer hind quarter on my new Weber grill. Waiting impatiently now.
Worked some more on the ILF longbow limbs. 47 @ 28 and very noodly. 10 gpp speed is 182 so no killer speed but quiet to my ear.
Need to make a curved wedge and take some deflex out so the limb can be thicker toward tip for more stability. Haven't shot outside at longer range yet.
-
I drew a 35 pound bow yesterday, 6 times.. :)
There was a slight discomfort, but nothing major. Planning on shooting the wife's 29 pounder next week at the trad campout get together.
-
You go Roy!!
-
Good for you, Roy. So next week you should be good as new?
-
Glad to hear it's working out for you Roy. Good luck at the shoot!
-
Keep at it, Roy. Eventually you will bust out of that 3.5# bow. :)
-
  :archer:
Dave.
-
Getting ready for opener. Made a new string and re served the old one for backup. Tuned to new arrows and am shooting the new string in.
Here's a picture of the mess, otherwise Roy will say it never happened! :)

Just walked off the 3 D course, shot 36 targets, only missed one. Shoulder felt better and better with every shot. Ya baby..... :)
-
Don't over do it bud!! But have a blast!!

Cool news Roy

Good for you old timer!!

Good for you, Roy! But don't over do it.

Good news, Roy. Should keep getting better by the day.

Probably just yer age. Rub it!

LOL

Roy, you forgot the second part of Ben's analogy.
:readit:

I got permission to cut a Hophornbeam tree on a coworker's property and walked a portion of it today. I found a handful of nice ones. I'll probably go in there with a saw next month. I saw a lot of deer sign in there too.
-
working on de-uglying a heavily painted up Herter's sitka 62"
Filling a couple holes on her.
She's kinda pretty under all that makeup.
-
adding a 40 x25 extension to my shop- roofs going on! at last. has a cold/ processing meat room and a root cellar in there too!
-
Worked on a z splice for a tri lam.
-
had a good day yesterday.
Spent some time in the water.
Fam got out their bows for a while.
Ended up around the fire making smores and can cobbler.
Damn good day that was a long time coming.

very cool Zradman!!!!
-
I decided since I need to check my cameras I'd just go ahead and hog hunt while I was there. Walked outside to my truck to get something and it was freakin HOT! So I walked back thru the house and out the back door and jumped in the pool and thought "What the heck was I thinking!!!!" :knothead:
-
:biglaugh:

Stopped this morning and got permission off a farmer across the road to catch some snappers out of his pond.
Then I skinned a couple snakes and stretched them and some carp skins to boards to dry. I worked an osage stave down to a single heartwood ring, then a buddy of mine stopped up and we critiqued the tiller on a snakey osage selfbow he's working on.
-
I pickled a couple of jars of mushrooms this morning, whipped up a cup of barbecue sauce in anticipation of dinner tonight. Then I dumped a load of work clothes in the washer and glued up a bow while it worked. After that, I prepared a set of lams for another bow before grilling a couple of nice rib steaks. MMMMMMM!
Now I think I'll work on shooting in my swap bow after dinner settles a bit.
I like days like this. :archer:
Dave.
-
Sounds like you've been busy Jeff, made me tired just reading about it. Hope you find some nice hophornbeam, next to osage, it's the best you can get in this area.
-
Lots of good things getting done this weekend guys.
Nice work!
-
Dan, I agree about the hophornbeam. Good stuff.
-
It doesn't get much better than that, John.
-
Had a good day, sat in the AC in a mini excavator and thought about bows while I listened to classic rock. Laid 6 road culverts too....
-
Talked to my buddy today and he said I covered just a small fraction of his property and that there's more hophornbeam on the remainder of his ground. Can't wait to check it out.
-
Drove by this tree at MoJam, a storm came by the day before.
Went back and got two pieces
Walnut 22" long 14" O.D.
It will make some risers

I envy you guys who live close to all those fine woods. We have some ash around here but it's hard to get in suburbia.
One potential wood is serviceberry If I can find some that is legal to cut.
-
It was 9 hours from my house.
That's why I went back to get it
:)
-
Awesome! Looks really dark in those photos. Looks like a crotch that could have good figuring.
I saw that photo before reading and thought 'that's not selfbow wood, what is he thinking!?' that's riser wood for sure, nice haul.
-
Sitting in the airport I just started chuckling and couldn't stop when I saw the post asking if a reinforced riser is necessary for a carbon socket takedown. Wish he'd asked that a week or two ago!
-
Not all today but I've been doing some work to this ol bow I picked up. Took off the paint. Filled a couple holes. Gave it a more satin/rough finish. Added a little breakup color to the back. I think it is a decent looking bow.

Very nice, John.
-
Thanks Roy.
I'm trying to figure out what type of wood this is.
The photos didn't capture the color very well.
The color is sorta in between the reddish pics and the tanish pics.
Maybe bubinga, shedua, Pau Ferro (Bolivian Rosewood)...?
Any guesses?
-
Leaving Thursday for the Pa UBP annual campout and 3D shoot for 4 days. Graduated from 29 # up to my bear takedown @ 35 pounds. Maybe by October I'll put the 42 # limbs on for bow season.
-
-
Good news Roy!
Will the 42# be legal to hunt?
-
Yes, the minimum here in PA is 35 #.
-
-
So if you can get your 35# limbs to your usual 21" draw, you're halfway there!
Glad your healing up man! Don't rush it tho!

Not shedua, I don't think it's bubinga ... I would guess either Pau Ferro or Brazilian rosewood. The dark stripes and the curly figure make me lean towards Brazilian.
-
Zradix- your riser looks like tiger wood.
-
Either way, that is one massive piece of wood! Nice restoration.
Trux congrats on that awesome static RC you made. Love the profile, riser, everything.

couple of recent builds, this one a Tasmanian blackwood / osage riser with 'boo lams and black glass. 66 NTN and 45# @ 28'' (http://i1382.photobucket.com/albums/ah249/bigbob2/DSCN0904_zpsfdfk1wt8.jpg) (http://s1382.photobucket.com/user/bigbob2/media/DSCN0904_zpsfdfk1wt8.jpg.html)

-
Ha! :D Thanks Trux.
-
Nice looking bows
-
Has anyone heard about when mr troy will be getting back to work at woodgallery?
-
Big Bob, nice work. Who wouldn't want to say they made a bow out of Tasmanian Blackwood?!!! Too cool..
-
I love those down under woods! Bob, you make great looking bows.
I spent the evening tillering a tri lam to take to Hawkeye next week and it suddenly hinged just out of the bottom fade. I hate it when I find a weak spot in the wood like that. It just goes like a wet noodle.
Luckily I have another bow in the works that just needs finishing. When I have time I will salvage the riser from the failed bow. It's way too pretty to throw away.
Dave.
-
Started my second attempt of a takedown today. Hope this one will work out for deer season coming up. It's about to come out of the oven soon.

12 year old grandson was here last night and he was shooting the bow I made for him 4 years ago. He gets a little better every time he shoots. He's getting bigger so I think it's time to make him a regular size bow. 10 yard group.

WTH, a KU shirt!!
Nice shootin, yer wife teach him? :goldtooth:
-
Nice pic, Roy.
I'm glueing a limb to overlay back onto my hunting bow. Left it strung in the car on a sunny Colorado 90 degree day. :banghead:
-
Good deal!
-
I kin buy you a KU shirt ifin ya want one, Kenny ole boy..
-
I got a KU neighbor, but I just don't care about those sports.....
-
My grandson in the picture doesn't care for sports either, he's more into primitive stuff... Can't understand where he got that.. LOL
-
WTH, a KU shirt!!
Nice shootin, yer wife teach him? :goldtooth:
-
Yes...
-
Roy, you ever get your cane worked up?
Bout to make some cane arrows myself. Got 4 really good dry shafts.
-
No I haven't David. The shoulder surgery held me back this past winter through spring. But they are bundled up in a dry spot just begging for attention. The next bow I start is going to be for Roy and I'll make them up for that bow. They are sweet cane shafts.
-
Bout time to cut some more. However, cane rattlers are really moving right now down here. Got two this week.
-
Oh crap. Ya wear them snake proof boots when yer cutting cane?
-
Just got finished today making my own bow rack for my room!
I wanted to go with a natural wood look, but realized that everything else in the room is trimmed and painted with Designer White Semi-Gloss. So to keep to the theme, but still look unique I took a 1x6 white board, and trimmed it with some square trim (don't know what kind exactly) that we had in the garage (leftovers from job sites) and installed some dowels and caulked and painted it.
36" long outside to outside, 32" inside trim piece to inside trim. Total of 10 dowels spread 3.5" apart to hold bows and/or equipment. It's a simple design, but it does it's job, keeps my bows from clogging up my gun rack, and provides me with a reason to splurge and buy some more bows to fill it! :bigsmyl: :archer:
Pictured is my two self-bows, my nephews cheapo recurve (Easton Beginner recurve), an old Bear fiberglass kids longbow, my Redstag, my quivers and arm-guards and gloves.
I am pleased with how it looks and how functional it is!

Yes I do Roy!! Don't know if they would help a lot. The one I got this week was given to be by a local guy that knows I use them. Was 61" long. Don't want to find out. LOL
Did some shootin tonight. Got some work to do on that. :archer2:
-
That's a nice size snake. Going to a trad shoot tomorrow here.
Nice job on the bow rack.
-
Good lookin bow rack Randy.
-
Thanks fellas! Now I need a few more bows to fill it, before long I may need to build another one!
-
That's a big un David, you can probably get both limbs done with one that size. Never seen a cane brake though, are they very big in diameter like the timber rattlers are?
Is cane easy to come by down there, none to be found in this area. I've made 2 arrows from garden stakes after going through about 50 stakes. I believe they are some of the best shooting arrows I have, they rate right up there with my carbons. Killed a turkey this past spring with one of them. If you know of anyone who has any that would be willing to sell or trade shoot me a pm.
Randy, I agree, good job with the bow rack.
-
Dan, next time I go cut some cane I'll send you a dozen or so.
I'm calling this a cane rattler cause he is a little different than most of the timbers I've seen. Was a pig. Couldn't reach around mid section. Was dark when he brought it to me didn't get any pics.
-
David, that will be much appreciated, let me know what the shipping costs are. More than happy to pay the shipping costs.
The largest timber rattler I've ever seen was around 54". He was probably 4" to 5" in diameter.
-
Worked on my takedown longbow some more... just need to bring the width of the limb from 1.75 to 1.5 inch. I have a new found respect for you guys who make these takedowns... they are some hard to construct and make sure everything matches (http://i1177.photobucket.com/albums/x344/bowhntineverythingnh03743/24260419-118B-4AF0-B913-0DC306CE5DC3.jpg) (http://s1177.photobucket.com/user/bowhntineverythingnh03743/media/24260419-118B-4AF0-B913-0DC306CE5DC3.jpg.html)

I noticed that the riser is upside down in the last picture but you guys get the idea.

Nice skinnin job Mark!! That was a big ole boy.

I spent the whole weekend reducing hophornbeam logs, again. 2 more to go.
-
yep

yep

I prepped a red-tail boa skin over the weekend and put it on my Cocobolo hunting bow. I am very happy with the results. And I think it has improved my shot! Lol - this was actually a boa that I raised for years and died after a difficult birthing experience. My wife thought I was a little twisted for skinning her out and putting her on my bow but I did!

What is Hophornbeam?? Got any pics of the grain ...
-
Spent the weekend in the mountains of northern Pa. Got home and felt something pinching me on the cheek of my butt. Wouldn't ya know I had a deer tick imbedded in my butt. That's the second tick in a year now I've had on me. The wife removed it and I started on an antibiotic right away. I've had two friends get lyme disease and it was very hard for them to get rid of it.
-
We have ton's of them here in Mississippi
-
Gee, that's too bad, Roy. Somehow it's your wife I feel sorry for! :biglaugh:
-
Gosh, it's the tick I feel sorry fer. That had to be a mistake on its part.

Started collecting the bits I need for a feather burner courtesy of die_dunkelheit
http://tradgang.com/noncgi/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=125;t=013942
Went to the vape shop to get nichrome wire. Told the guy what it's for. As it turns out, his 14 year old son did archery at summer camp and seems to have been bitten by the bug.
Gave the guy a bunch of archery links, this being one of them.
Looks like there's going to be a bow under the tree this year.

Roughed out some cedar lams..

nice
-
So how thick are those Roy, around .326" ?
:biglaugh:
-
So what are you going to make with those Roy?
-
.375 Kenny. After running through the drum sander to even them up, they will be .25, then tapered to .125 at the tip end.
Core lams in a tri lam, Mark.
-
I wuz guessin buddy, figgered your band =saw was wobbly so they ended up a bit shy....
-
LOL.. Actually I cut them a little thicker to compensate for band saw flaws. Plus with cedar being a lighter softer wood, I'll probably leave them a tad thicker than .25 :)
-
I did the same thing with some hophornbeam yesterday. Reduced and steamed staves, then sliced some of the cutoffs into quartersawn slats, full and half length for trilams... or whatever. More again today.
-
You been working with glass Roy?
what's this .125, .375, .25 stuff?
-
Kenny is learning me the decimal system.. Cause he kint unnerstand fractions yet.. :)
-
:) lol
-
Glass bow, trilam, same difference.
-
cool
-
Cleaned up the lams some more today, made them 1.6250" wide X .3125" thick.. Darn I love that dust deputy too.. :)
Hi Kenny.. :)

-
Roy, does erc make a good tri lam core?
Dave.
-
Yes it does. You need to make the bow say .25" wider to get your weight up because it's not a real strong wood. Very pretty and the shop smells great though. But it's light and snappy..
-
Roy, that second lam from the left looks like it might be oversized. The others are obviously 1.6250 but that one looks to be 1.6251 :)
-
Can't be Mike. I got's me the best high tech digital micrometer they make. Space age technology instrument it is. It's the same one ole Kenny M uses so it has to be ah gooden.. :)
-
.312 and a half (5)
:bigsmyl:

Been working on a new 58" longbow. It's coming along nicely!

Good friend from Ohio took this buck this morning with the BBO bow I made him..
-
 !!! WOW !!!
He put that bow to darn good use!
-
Yup. He has 60 acres loaded with Osage, so he cuts me Osage wood. The bow in the picture came from an Osage tree on his property. I told him I want that Osage tree in the back ground next. LOL
-
should be a bow or two in there...lol
Very cool
-
That is awesome Roy! I still want to get my hands on one of your fine bows. Hopefully someday!
-
Nice buck and bow
-
Yep, that's a nice buck, a nice bow, and Kenny is a good guy.
-
So far today I steamed, straightened and reflexed a pair of osage billets, stripped down 6 turkey wings for wing bone calls and feathers for arrows, and made some osage and hophornbeam handle blocks from 'scrap' cutoffs and such. Gonna clean the gutters of leaves and then head back into the shop.
-
worked on a snakey osage today
-
Found a local spot where I can sign up to use a fully kitted out wood workshop. Met the guy runs the place - as it turns out, his Mrs. wants to get into archery and bow making.
Signing up on Wednesday.

Glued up another tri lam. Osage belly, red elm core, boo backing. 62 tip to tip.

Always enjoy your builds, Roy.
I'll come up with something ornery later. Right now I have a toothache. :biglaugh:

Lookin good Roy! (the bow, not you)
I slid a mini excavator over a bank and banged my head and left shoulder pretty nicely.
Kind of sore, but think none the worse for wear.
-
Glad you are ok, Kenny.
I think there is some hankie pankie going on in the bow shop cause now I have twin bows...

How are the twins coming roy ?
-
Haven't been working on them. Was bear hunting last weekend, bud got one. Been fighting a cold all week, wife has walking pneumonia, and going buck hunting up north this weekend.
-
Good luck
Post us when you get back!
-
hope you have better luck with the hunting Roy than your health! Go well!

I just smoked the motor on my bandsaw, so taking opportunity to upgrade from 1 hp to 1.5hp. Should have new motor late next week.
-
Finishing this bow up. Sprayed the first coat of Thunderbird on it and I really like how it came out. Super smooth with very little issues. Wet sanded the bow with 1000 grit paper and will spray it with flat tomorrow. Hoping a new bow may turn my luck around for the last couple weeks of my hunting season...it has been a tough one yet again!

Started a back quiver project. Kinda finding my way as it goes along. (http://i896.photobucket.com/albums/ac170/longcruise/Archery/back%20quiver/IMG_20161130_084016914_zpsncss5lvx.jpg)

I should of had gloves on... Dang piece of bamboo took off while sanding the back on the edge sander. And naturally I had to hang onto it so it didn't get damaged.. :)

-
dang Roy.
...stitches?
-
I hope you're ok buddy!
I have to say, a sander with some coarse grit belt is dangerous . May not cut as deep as a saw but removes material very quickly.....
-
That's the kind of blood trail you want to see in the woods, not in your shop. Hope your ok Roy.
-
LOL Dan, that's only half the blood trail in the shop..
I'm fine.. No stitches, just 3 deep cuts on the hand from holding onto the bamboo when it took off. That boo gets pretty sharp along the edges when ya taper it down. And ole dumb a$$ Roy didn't put on his gloves. Wife patched me up with butterfly bandages... Then gave me hell... :)
-
She's a good woman for that...lol
Glad to hear it wasn't too serious.
That boo can be like razors.
-
Ouch :scared: be careful Roy
-
you got a name for that bow now. :knothead:
Take it easy old fart. :)
-
Glad to hear you're ok. Most of mine draw blood before finished too.
-
Actually, Dan. If I don't get cut at least once a day in the shop, then I know I haven't done much bow work.. :)
-
Damn Roy, when I saw that picture, it gave me the shivers. There is something about bamboo cuts that gets me.
Dave.
-
Didn't do anything quite so spectacular, but I got my latest attempt to floor tiller stage.
Maple backed ipe. Hoping to come in #50 ish
Let the scraping begin.
Eyes, legs and fingers crossed!
I did pick up a few good slivers.
-
Dry run, Dry run, Dry run and Dry run.
Glue up tomorrow
-
I got wood!... Looking is like ole Troy is cranking again.
