Finally got permission to harvest some Osage. When should I seal the ends? Immediately? What do you use? Thanks

ASAP Wood glue, shellac, wax, anything that seals.

I like wood glue, but mainly cause I've always got it lying around and it cleans easily off you fingers after you wipe it on.

The sooner the better. I won't go on an osage run without a can of shellac and a paint brush. I generally seal them with 2 coats within an hour of cutting them.
-
Seal them as soon as you shut off the chainsaw. Once you get the logs home seal them again. By the time I'm done processing a stave I might have 4 or 5 coats of polyurethane on the ends.
Post some pictures of your osage haul once you get them cut.

Thanks for the info guys. Rob W. and I had a fun day at my buddies farm. We ended up getting some usable staves. We will post pics soon. May start a new thread on that though
