Title: Newbie Question about Lamination
Post by: H.P. on November 02, 2015, 09:42:00 AM
New member here with a question.  I recently acquired an unfinished long bow (a project someone had started but never got around to finishing).  Anyways, it still needs some tillering done to one of the limbs and some finish work to be done.  My question is this:

Can I laminate another piece of *insert material here* of wood/fiberglass to the belly side of the bow to increase it's draw weight?  The front is as flat as a board.  My concern is that after tillering the bottom limb the draw weight will drop below 40#'s.  I'm sure it'll still be a fun bow to shoot, however, I'd like to be able to use it to "hunt" with- hence the question about adding another layer of lamination to increase draw weight.

Thanks in advance for any advice, comments, or directing me to a thread that discussed this already.

Oh, and thanks for the ad- been pot licking this site for months and finally got around to registering.

Harris, is the bow all wood or is it a glass bow with wood core?

How far off is tiller?  I think the first thing I would do is get the tiller right and then check the weight.

Could you post a pic?

It's all wood/no glass.  The tiller is off quite a bit.  Just doing a quick and 'unofficial' pull test, it feels like one of my 30-35# bows.  I'll post some pics up when I get home this afternoon.  I'm not the one that started it, but look forward to completing it.  However, I'll post pics up when I get home and maybe that'll help. ANY advice will be greatly appreciated.

Get the tiller closer first, then depending on how long it is, taking one inch off each end will jump the weight up about 5 #.

Will do.  It's pretty long (no pun intended) so knocking an inch off the ends isn't going to hurt.  I'll post pics of what I'm starting with though.  Sage advice always welcomed.
