Here are a couple of bows I finished up while I've been gone. Built these for a couple of friends in Nebraska. Cocobolo and maple risers, one with quilted maple overlays and the other cocobolo overlays.
51# at 28" 63" nock to nock hickory laminations under black glass.

I had modified an earlier design when I built the two above and guessed at the lam thickness. Ended up way heavier than my scale would read. So had to make a new set of limbs but I couldn't just let these go to waste. I sanded the width down to 1" and put them on an old 17" riser with a 9 degree pad angle. She ended up 64" nock to nock and 67# at 28". Smokes my 675 grain arrows at 188 fps.
I'm going to have to hide this thing before I hurt myself trying to shoot it.
Here's the FD curve and chrono results.

Wow- very nice! I like the hidden bolts for the limbs and they look like shooters based off the fd curves.

Amazing work! And it's good to see your back!
-
Very nice - love those spliced veneers!
-
Great looking bows, of course yours always are great looking. Glad you are back. You are going to have to due a how to on the Super Tiller. I have had it for several years, just to dumb to know how to use it.
-
Jess supertiller makes my brain sweat but it sure is fun. Man there are so many different steps and ways to work with it I'll have to give it some thought on how to explain and show some of the steps.

nice one's, again
:)

Nice Ben, good to see you back.
-
Very nice. I really like the quilted maple.
-
Looks great Galen!! Good to see you!

Kenny thats the last of the cocobolo I got from you. Dang nice stuff but I can't work with it any more. I break out with a bad rash from the dust :(
-
Ah, our dainty little flower child.. :)
-
very pretty woods, nice work!- did you hide the holes in the belly for the bolts- or what did you do
-
Roy I gave up smoking the flowers years ago thank God or I'd really be a pain in the posterior.
I've left the holes open so far as I haven't found a convenient and clean way to cover them. Still working on ideas.

I had to quit on that stuff too, rash that itches like heck!
-
Very nice I'm partial to maple anyway. Your work is inspiring.

Nice job!

Don't feel bad, Ben. IPE messed me up 6 years ago and I still have skin issues...
Now sister McKenzie has sensitive skin too? LMAO, not gonna comment on dat.. :)

Ben, stunning bows!
Question, what do you see in the difference between maple core and hickory? I have been thinking about trying some. I have quite a bit of it cut into lumber.
-
Incredible bows!
-
the only take down i ever built was mounted like yours. i was thinking about threading the holes- and having either a brass or a hardwood plug that would screw into the hole a bit, finishing flush, and that was slotted for a flat screwdriver, .
still havent done it yet- maybe one day :)
-
David I couldn't tell a difference in feel when drawing the bows but the hickory appeared to add a bit to the draw weight. Didn't have my new chronograph to compare them before giving them to my friends so can't help you much.
Fujimo thats what I've been thinking about just need to take the time to make a nice set of screw in plugs. Tandy has some nice buttons that could be glued to threaded plugs
