Title: making a simple PVC bow
Post by: Jeremy Bays on October 08, 2015, 12:20:00 PM
Hi Folks.
I just had an article published in the Winter 2015 issue of TradArcher's World.  The article is about making SIMPLE PVC bows.  I thought it might get some life here.
The link for the article is
   Making Simple PVC Longbows (http://www.ourmightywarriors.com/?p=7)

I would also like to add a couple of quick pictures of some other very simple PVC designs I a, working on.

This bow is made from SCH40 (Schedule 40) 1/2" PVC pipe and pulls about 20 pounds at 26 inches.  It is 54 inches tip to tip and painted with brown liquid shoe polish.

These bows are made from 3/4 inch SCH40 PVC and pull about 35 pounds at 26 inches (about 40 pounds at 28 inches).  They are 56 inches tip to tip.  Painted with a coat of brown (nutmeg) spraypaint then coat of black show polish and then a coat of brown.  I will finish them up with a pleather handle.

Thanks
Jeremy Bays

Nice looking simple bows.  Interesting that Trad Archer's World would publish and article on PVC bows, but this website hardly mentions them...

If folks are interested, there is a lot of activity with quality PVC bowbuilding on G+ and a variety of sites we can't mention here.  Historical shape recreations, draw weights in excess of 70#, draw lengths in excess of 33"...

I have a friend who has armed an army of youngsters just starting out in archery with these bows. Cheap, easy to make, and shoot surprisingly well, just the ticket for a kid who has never had a bow in his or her hands.
