Title: Ideas for a bow
Post by: Elison on October 08, 2015, 09:51:00 AM
Hi guys!
I just received from a friend a couple of pieces of an exotic wood called Guajayvi and another one called Santos Mahogany, and would like to have some ideas of what kind of bows I could make using it.

At first I thought in using the Guajayvi with bamboo backed, but I have no idea if the wood can handle with the bamboo, or only with fiberglass.
The same as the Santos Mahogany...

Here some pictures of the wood, the lenght max is in approximately 35" for 2" width and 1 1/2" height:

I've never heard of Guajayvi. I have used Mahogany twice for a riser and both times it blew apart. However Santos Mahogany may be different. Maybe someone else can help you out more.

I found the specs of Santos Mahogany:

The Guajayvi I only found a citation in this article ( just below  of Pacific Yew ).
