Title: forward mount longbow
Post by: bigbob2 on September 27, 2015, 07:13:00 PM
This is my take on a belly mounted longbow. It is a 'leftie'  as a friend wanted one, so she had to test it as i cannot in any way shoot left handed.apparently it is dead in the hand, very quiet , and very smooth feeling lighter than the 50# at 28'' it currently is.My question is would there be much if any advantage in adding reflex to this bow design? Thinking a little preload can't be a bad thing. Not that I am at all unhappy with its performance as is.   (http://i1382.photobucket.com/albums/ah249/bigbob2/DSCN0513_zpslc2q4ozs.jpg) (http://s1382.photobucket.com/user/bigbob2/media/DSCN0513_zpslc2q4ozs.jpg.html)

I am quite happy with the performance as it is but just wondering how much advantage a bit of reflex might give a bow such as this.To do this one I just used 'builders bog' our slang for what I believe you guys call 'bondo'? to build up the upper form on my straight laid form. I think I will build a dedicated form for this type as I believe it has a lot of positives in terms of stability and accuracy, and is far less prone to allowing bow torque.this is why i would like some input about reflex before building the new form.i will be making a few cosmetic changes to riser design too.

1 Very cool bow, Bob!!  I'm a big fan of reflex, but without any deflex in the riser, wouldn't get carried away.

I like a bit wider I beam than some folks and love saying conkerberry even if I hated the looks of it which I certainly don't!!   :D

yeah Kenny the conkerberry is a rather rare wood in that it comes from a thorny scrub that never gets higher than about 6 -8 feet with twisted trunks, and nearly always with a 'pipe' up the middle.can't but in commercially at least rarely if so.I was thinking along the lines of about 1 1/2'' reflex over he length of limb.Only mild.
