Title: Sunburst stain on bamboo
Post by: Sam Harper on September 16, 2015, 10:31:00 PM
Here's a stain job I've tried a few times in the past without any luck, but this one worked out, so I thought I'd show a picture of it.  I did this with Fiebings leather dye--yellow, red, and black.

Nice stain job, love the sunburst. It's like a classic Fender Strat that can kill stuff ...

That Ipe looks very dark, another pic please!

I'll try to take some more pictures later today, and if I can get the help of a lovely assistant, I'll take a full draw picture.

Thanks for your kind words.

Here's some more pictures as requested.  I still don't have a full draw picture because my lovely assistant hasn't arrived yet.  Also, the lack of quality is due to my poor photography skills.

The bow is a whopping 72" nock to nock.  There's a reason for that.  I made it for a guy who is 6 ft 4 in tall.  I was just making sure!  It's 42# @ 28".  I'm not sure what his draw length is.

LittleBen, here's another look at the ipe.  I do like it dark!

Another shot of the whole back, kind of at an angle so you can see the curves.

A better shot of the side profile unstrung.

There it is strung.

And one more shot of the handle, which is birdseye maple.

Very nice job, great tiller.

Really like that dark Ipe as well. Seems to be the most dense. I usually hoard those darker pieces for myself
