Been shooting a wesley Special that Mudfeather loaned me and honestly at this time don`t want to shoot anything else. It`s 66" long and 55 lbs. It shoots a 2018 with a 225 grain point like a dart.It also suprisingly shoots flatter than my homemade 52lb`er thats slight r/d.I`m hooked and taking it hunting tomorrow God willing.The only bow I`ve shot that was more forgiving was a HHC Harrison that Squirrel Bait had a few years back.It was a Hill style bow as well.My longer range shooting has very much improved. For me thats 30-40 yards not that I intend on shooting big game at that distance but after practicing that far a fifteen yarder on a pig is a bit easier.RC
They are quite addictive,it's hard to explain but I just enjoy shooting my Hill's.I wasn't sure I would like it but I did very much.I traded for one here last summer and it is all I've been shooting and I also aquired two more Hill's.
Addictive, yes! I think I've had 30 in the past three years. Been moving a bunch of them on as I had to drop my weight to 40 or less, but still have a dozen or better. I think I'm currently in Hill rehab.... I've been forcing myself to broaden out and admit that there are other bows to play with, recurves and higher tech trad. It's fun, but the Hills are still first.

Yep, they're addictive, alright! My trouble is that I'm addicted to a whole bunch of different bows! But there sure is something special about shooting the Hill!

I'm saving my pennies right now and hope to order either a Big Five or maybe a Wesley Special in a couple of months. There isn't much difference in price between the two - for you experts, is that extra bamboo lam a big deal?
GVK: I've had a Wesley Special, but have two Big 5s now. I like to keep the number of glue joints, which have the effect of stiffening the bow/limbs, to a minimum. Or, stated another way, the more the number of glue joints, the more they increase the limbs' memory. I prefer to have the increased weight come from the lamination rather than the glue joint. I'm sure this effect is minor and probably not noticeable to most of us, but that's the rationale behind my preference. Haven't yet tried a Tembo (three lams) but that will probably be my next one.
Love my Carbon Tembo and the Wesley I traded Squirrel Bait out of :) and want a few more! I also have a Northern Mist Shelton string follow bow that's as sweet as they come! I'm definately hooked!
Thx Orion - I was kind of wondering about that. I mean if 4 lams is good and 5 is better, why not 6 or 50? :-p Somewhere there is probably a sweet spot and now I'm curious to know if it's 3, 4, 5 or something else.
I know what you mean, RC. I just love to shoot mine, and the recurves have been idle the last few years.

I've had them all, and I think that there is enough variation in individual bows that you can find 3 adn 4 lams that are better than some 5's, etc. out of 30 some Hills, the ones that have been most consistently smooth to me are the Cheetahs, with the Half breeds close behind.... but then there was that Ruffed Grouse... and the all yew Redman... :^) Seriously, the length in relation to the specific draw and the tillering of each bow can result in a lot of difference. Get one... any one... you'll like it.
I think most folks know I've had to drop down my weight. Currently I'm shooting a 41# Wesley, a 37# Ruffed Grouse and a 35# Wesley... all good

I took the Wesley pigging today on Altamaha WMA that has a special 9 day season and almost got a shot at three different pigs. Wind was swirling and busted them out. I did hit every stump I shot at and feel a whole lot of confidence inside 25 yards. Can`t hunt again till the 22nd but plan on bust`n some pork and maybe a Gobbler 'Hill" style.RC
The best shooting Hill I've ever had was my King of the North 68" 58lbs. @ 28" with cocobola riser with center lam of cocobola,2 lams of bamboo,2 outer lams of juniper. I kick myself in the arse every day for letting that one get away.
