was checking the tiller on one of my longbows and found the bottom to be 5 3/4 and the top 5 7/8, is this backward as far as numbers go? I was thinking the higher number should be the bottom limb and where do I need to take it off to achieve even tiller? the top or bottom?
The bottom limb is supposed to be stiffer, so if it's 5 3/4 and the top is 5 7/8, you have 1/8 inch positive tiller, which is right on in most books. Don't touch it! :thumbsup:
Longstick, You need the higher measurement on the upper limb, so if the upper and lower limb have already been established, and the higher measurement is on the upper limb....you are good to go. Depends on wether you shoot split finger or 3 under as well....3 under I think you want even tiller. I could be wrong on this, so wait for more opinions before proceeding.
thx Jerry...I took some off the backsides to get a bit of poundage off it..bow made by unknown bowmaker and I cant sell it so I fuggered I may as well fix it LOL
Sounds like your bow WAS tillered right, so how's it shoot now?

I can actually hold at full draw for more shots than was originally able.. a pound and a half makes a big difference..havent put it on a scale yet but feels much better. Originally there was a good 1/4 inch of difference
