Title: New TD Recurve
Post by: R. W. Mackey on July 09, 2015, 10:40:00 PM
Just finished this TD, it's my scond one. Not perfect but I'm learning. It shoots great and overall I'm very satisfied with it.
It's 58" and 46# at my draw, Riser is Pau Ferro or some folks call it Morado. Limbs are Yew and Pau Ferro, some of Troys veneers. I started to use a contrasting footed section in the riser but the Pau Ferro was so nice I just went with the Purple Heart accents.

Is that a (Build your own bow)  Jim Thorne plans?

Turned out really nice.

Mark, it's sorta Jims plan. I used the length, limb pad angle
And basic shape, but I tweeked it to my person taste. I changed the grip, sight window lines as well as the general shape of the riser.
It's got a few different things from bows I've owned that I really liked. A little Blacktail, a little Brack, some of the original
Bighorn and even the older Bears.
Great thing about doing it yourself, you get to make it exactly how you like.
Thanks for the nice comment, I think it turned out very nice as well.

Roy, that is sweet! What taper and/or tip wedges are you using if you don't mind me asking?

Kenny, I use a 1/8" piece of phenolic, 6" long in the tip section. I taper the last 2" for a smooth transition into the limb.
  Glad you like it.

Cool! Think I can see it in there. Good string angle looks like.

Glass for the tip wedge might work a bit better, stiffer for the weight involved. Just thinkin out loud....

I appreciate your advice, just learning this game. I'll give that a try on the next one.
  Thanks for your comments.

That bow looks excellent at full draw! Good job. Could we see the braced and unbraced profiles? Great work with the shaping and color scheme as well.   :notworthy:

Wow!  Awesome job.

However, I'm not sure I believe that is only your second one.  My second bow sure didn't look that good.   ;)

That's a fact, my second TD, Just got lucky. It will be awhile before I get a chance to take any more pics, on vacation for a few weeks. I'll get a few profiles taken when I get home.
Really appreciate everyone's compliments, nice coming
From some very good amateur bowyers.
