I'm planning on a boo or hickory backed rd bow. About 64, 65", snd 40#@28". If I use 1/8" hickory to back, how thick of ipe or jatoba will I need? This may be a TD with a 14" riser, not sure yet.

Start with slat no less than 1/2" thick. Your tiller, limb length and limb width will determine its finish thickness.

I'd go 1-1/2" wide and 3/8" thick for a 40# bow.

X2 ... That'll give you plenty of thickness to tiller down to 40#
