Title: UPDATE forward handle DONE

I really disliked this bow's strung profile. So I decided to shorten it up a bit but would be waaay heavy. So it sat in the corner for awhile, and yesterday while I was cleaning up in the shop, I decided I needed some fresh sawdust.

So I made a jig to hold her vertical in the bandsaw and marked along the parallel on belly(side away from glass)with a pen. Clamped her to the jig and sawed it in 2 lengthwise. Had to use a wedge to help steady it since the limb was tapered.

The bandsaw takes out .065 kerf and I thought that should make a difference. Plus I wanted to shorten it up a bit to see if the profile improves. Otherwise it would just sit in the corner.

That would be admitting defeat, right? LOL

The jig and the belly glass and parallel clamped back on...

Clamped up 2nd limb

The new glue line, will probably be obvious til I paint it camo....

Kenny, I hope this works for you. I would not have the guts to make that cut.

Ah heck Robert, it wasn't much good the way it was.

Here at 62"...

Here is what 58" looks like...

   (http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d34/kennym/SANY0066_zpsm5blpdll.jpg) (http://s32.photobucket.com/user/kennym/media/SANY0066_zpsm5blpdll.jpg.html)

And 28" draw...

   (http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d34/kennym/SANY0068_zpsnnphvjzx.jpg) (http://s32.photobucket.com/user/kennym/media/SANY0068_zpsnnphvjzx.jpg.html)

Now how about this, look at this string angle, then check weights at 27" , 28" and 29"

String angle don't mean she aint stackin...

   (http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d34/kennym/SANY0071_zps0te9gmkv.jpg) (http://s32.photobucket.com/user/kennym/media/SANY0071_zps0te9gmkv.jpg.html)

And the worst glue line...

   (http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d34/kennym/SANY0074_zpstdbfgzez.jpg) (http://s32.photobucket.com/user/kennym/media/SANY0074_zpstdbfgzez.jpg.html)

And would you believe 1/16" positive tiller at fades? I still gotta work on the rest of limbs a bit.

What do you think on the full draw, should I work the fades a bit more to let it bend there just a little more?

Just noticed this, that string, wherever it came from, has the nock about 2" higher than it should be!!

Somehow the full draw shot gives me the impression it will really fling an arrow.

I think I'd work the fades just a little bit more out of curiosity but that's just me. It still looks good like it is but you never know until you try it      looks like it'll fling an arrow

It should be a screamer at 28" the way it is- how does it shoot?
Title: Re: UPDATE forward handle DONE
Post by: kennym on May 18, 2015, 08:13:00 PM
I think I want it to work at the fades a bit more too. I've only shot it 3 times, but it was pretty quick and quiet for having the nock point so high...

At 62"

      (http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d34/kennym/SANY0016_zpsd618b480.jpg) (http://s32.photobucket.com/user/kennym/media/SANY0016_zpsd618b480.jpg.html)

At 58" first go...

And after narrowing at fades to let them work a bit more...

It is quick and quiet but I still ain't sure I like it. It came in at 52@28" and shoots OK  but I'm not sold on how it looks...

Thanks guys. It has .003 total taper and I used the Superlam wit hthe builtin tip wedges and power lams. I like it a lot better than when it was 62".....

Behaves quite well, I wouldn't have guessed it would have been much of a bow before I got the wild idea to saw it down the middle! LOL

Kenny, if you end up not liking it I know a place where it can have a loving home with someone who will take good care of her and shoot her often    :D    :D  seriously looks great. Love the aggressive design.

Kenny, Huge improvement in the drawn profile and I would bet you eliminated some if not all of the stack. The fades were just a bit too long for 28 in. but real close. Next bow if you shorten the fades an inch you should hit right on imho. Looks real good to me bro and I bet she is really quick. The brace looks fantastic and the drawn profile looks real good now. Funny thing about that glue line. I have never seen one do that. Are you using a pressure hose or clamps? I could see that happening with clamps but not with a hose .

God bless and cool little bow. Steve

Steve, that glue line was from resawing thru the limbs and regluing . :)

That didn't work out too well either, she blew up yesterday laying on the bench....

Glad it was on the bench and not at full draw!
