Title: Belly Ramps
Post by: bow loving man on March 30, 2015, 06:55:00 PM
I really like the design of the back of my form but I feel like the ramps are too steep and riser is too thick from back to belly...What effect will flattening the belly ramps some and narrowing the riser from back to belly have on the performance of the bow and the stack formula?  thanks, Barry

Probably none as long as the last 2 inches of each fade remain the same thickness and the overall riser length doesn't change.

What John said!

I've been thinking on making the riser thinner and adding the belly of riser on the outside of glass.

Like this test bow....

this is a KennyM design bow, I made a actionwood riser like you are asking about..  (http://i596.photobucket.com/albums/tt46/Robertfishes/bow18march2013c_zps6f538748.jpg) (http://s596.photobucket.com/user/Robertfishes/media/bow18march2013c_zps6f538748.jpg.html)

That's how I build my hybrid risers now. Don't have to cut the belly glass or worry about 2 pieces sliding around.  (http://i1315.photobucket.com/albums/t587/arnerbows/20150219_141216_zpsojvyide9.jpg) (http://s1315.photobucket.com/user/arnerbows/media/20150219_141216_zpsojvyide9.jpg.html)

This is the same direction I am headed, thinner, reinforced riser with backing. There are so many things I want to try, but so little time. Honey do this list.....lol   :readit:

DAle I made my first one by shaping the riser . Now I do them all like you do. I believe it makes a stronger riser and actually looks more streamlined. Its also a lot easier. All you have to do it cut the ramps for the fades on the back and make sure they are right. When I want a little more deflex for the belly I just add a fairly heavy power lam to the belly and it bends to the shape of the limbs past the fades of the riser. It basically is a riser extension.

God bless, Steve
