Hi Guys, hey wondering when you put the weight and draw length on the limbs? do you write it on the limb or riser before you put your finish coat on or after? and do you use that india ink?
-
The pens write better over 1-2 coats of finish on wood bows. Then add whatever you chose over that.

I agree

I had always assumed it was written with a paint-pen.

I use a Sakura brand "Paint pen" most of the time..I have a dip pen and India ink that works well too. When I used MinWax Spar Urethane I first finished the bow then 2 days later I wrote specs on the lower limb and lightly sprayed finish over it. I just started using Krystal dull from Big Jim. The Krystal dries in 20 minutes, I wrote specs between coats 2 and 3..

I have had sharpies and some paint pens run when I applied the finish coat. Now I use acrylic art inks.

As said apply a couple coats of finish then do the writing. India type ink pens are the best bet.

an INDUSTRIAL sharpie works great between coats of poly.
...HAS to say INDUSTRIAL though..a regular sharpie wipes right off.

thank you very much guys, I'm getting close to finishing my first bow.

Acrylic ink has always worked great for me.

I must be the only one who writes directly on the glass.
