Title: Fake snakeskins
Post by: Mad Max on February 27, 2015, 06:37:00 PM
Has anybody used cloth snake skins from Pine Hollow bows?

I bought one

Do you have any tips on putting them on a glass bow?

Why don't you contact Mike at Pine Hollow and ask him about them, how to use them and what's best. Go strait to the source Mike is a great guy and I'm sure he could help you with any of your questions.

If I were you, I would spend a few extra dollars and buy real snake skins. The fake skins look just like that, Fake... Mike is a good guy and would probably make an exchange for you. But that's just my opinion...

I've used them on glass bows particularly to hide streaky glass, but only because we can't use the real thing over here. the patterns look good but they finish very dull looking. I have used titebond 3 but would only recommend smooth on with glass bows.

what about some fish skins bob, some really cool skins, then there is shark and eel etc etc- all can be pretty thin.depending on the specie!
you guys got a few sharks there bud!!!!
they wont let you use any snakeskin at all, evenm if it is an imported skin, and you can show the importation of the processed hide?
might just be more hassle than its worth though- also holding thumbs on the new glass- its still not here yet- but it is coming a long way!

not sure about the legalities of importing genuine snake skin, but I imagine it would almost certainly be one big hassle, knowing our politicians. Haven't got the energy to bother with tanning shark skin or eels I'm afraid, so I'm stuck with the cloth ones.

Hear ya bob! some fish skins are pretty cool! and one doesn't tan them! they are glued on like rawhide,  cleaned/fleshed, stretched and dried.
Moistened pre application, and glued on moist. I have done a few bows with halibut and ling cod skin... I really like them. And seen a few on here with carp skin, very cool , camo , honey comb type look.

And, what do you glue them with?

Real snakeskins are nice, but they are so contrary  about giving them up!

Keen to know how the titebond holds up on the glass bows?

bob , I have seen quite a few glass bows, where they used TB3
to all accounts- it seems to hold up really well- might just give the glass a little light sanding- to get all the gunk off

Bob

I didn't have any issues...I sanded and wiped down with denatured alcohol.

Thanks Guys , I have done a few bows where I've used titebond 3 myself , but have always wondered how they were holding up and if I should have used smooth on.
