Title: clougy glass - can it be buffed out? how?
Post by: Matt Green on January 26, 2015, 10:55:00 PM
I'm not a bowyer but thought this'd be the place to ask.  I have a bow I recently purchased and noticed some cloudiness in the limbs - this there a way to buff that out?  I have heard that good glass is hard to find and I don't doubt it.  Any help?   if so, please email me at [email protected]
thanks in advance.

Is the finish on outside of limb cloudy? If so thats fixable. If its between the clear glass and veneer then there isn't a fix as far as I know.. Can you post a picture? The "bad" glass you speak of is streaks inside the glass, again no fix for that. I just built a bow with glass I bought 4 years ago..it had a few streaks in it.

Hey Matt, any plans on attending the spring fling at the end of February?
If so, bring it by and I'll take a look at it for you and give you some ideas if possible.

thanks, bigjim

Yep, we'll have to see it to tell you the cause. Most likely it's a place where the glue has not adhered to the glass or the wood.  Usually on the edge or the size of a oily thumb.
