Some swear by these beer can hole leavin heads. They punch whitetail, bear, hogs, and turkey.
You like em?
Paulie
I LOVE 'em for turkeys.....
Big Hole + Big Shock = Dead Bird

I shoot most of my deer close to your house. You can use any broadhead you choose. That being said, they are are great for elk.
they are good for, big holes and big blood trails.
could never get them sharp enough or fly straight enough for my liking?
Big snuffers leave big holes when on a heavy arrow and a moderately heavy bow. I wouldn't shoot them with a bow under 50# or on an arrow less than 500 grains. That's just me.
Brett
AMEN, W.C. How have you been? 64# MOAB pushes them OK. 67# Bigriver Recurve pushes them better.
whatever they hit :D
You make the call...

I like them.
IMHO...The easiest broadhead for me to sharpen.
Yes easy to sharpen, and big blood trails.I have been using them for 20 years now IMO the best broadhead made.Everyone has made a copy.
I've had them work just fine out of a 45# bow. Yes, you do want a moderately heavy hunting arrow, but a properly matched arrow that flies well out of your bow will do the job with a big Snuffer. I have yet to see a blood trail that compares to a 160gr. Snuffer, even if you don't get a pass through. That's experience, not speculation.
Big hole = massive blood loss.
Been talking to Guru bout them, thinking bout getting some to try out. For those that use them, how are you shapening...flat file method?
For those that have used both, how would you compare big snuffers to WW's for straightness? I've had the devil of a time getting some of the recent WW's to spin true and have to remove 5-10gr to get the blades flat.
I sharpen mine the same way Charlie Lamb does it in his video.
Snuffer taimer. The leather makes them razor sharp.
JC,
Ryan did a tutorial a while back using a bench grinder. That way works fantastic. I got lessons from Roger last spring with that method. It will work with a Wensel Woodsman too.
There are some BIG critters in Roger's barn taken out with big ol' Snuffers. Elk, moose, buffalo, ect. You can kill anything you want with them up to the really big stuff in Africa or Austrailia.
340# Boar shot with wood arrow at 15yards through both shields with a 160 grain snuffer file sharpened on a modified Snuffer Tamer and leather stropped. I preheat the heats on torch to soften so they don't skip down the files and they are alot easier to sharpen IMO.

I have personally never shot anything with them but I do know that Dick Robertson used them on his Moose and Grizzly and I have seen in person 2 Antelope that Ryan Rothaar shot with them along with the pictures of his Moose and also Muskox, I can't understand why anyone would use a WW when there are Snuffers. I will be using some this fall for sure along with my usual Sasquatch broadheads. Joseph
Joey, who's that young guy with the black hair and swamprooter recurve? :saywhat:
I like them alot....but I may be kind of partial, dunno ;)
For sharpening see the thread Mr. Osminski brought ttt. (He's MR Osminski now, since he's gonna take me huntin'!, even tho he got outsmarted by a sheep.
Here's a couple Snuffer pics:
Shot through this guy-low chest passthrough- in BC a couple years ago (65@29 inch AS thunderhawk, 680 gr carbons:

Killed this fella last August with the same setup:

Got penetration to the offside ribs, twice. Muskox was the hardest to penetrate animal I've shot in North America.
Here's a decent Iowa whitetail....and stories like his are why Dad invented the Snuffer in the first place...
Morning of Nov 4 2004 - this guy had a hot doe he was chasing around a small inside corner in an open field, growling, snort-wheezing and tearing up scrapes. He came past me 3-4 times following her, always on the move, and was within 50 yards for 45 min. Finally the doe ended up directly under my stand and he came broadside at 8 yards. As I released the doe took off (from him, not me, I think) and he turned towards me to chase her. The arrow entered him at the last rib angling back and exited between his hind legs. Hit nothing but punkin'. He hunkered up and headed down the ridge into the timber. We gave him a couple of hours and found him bedded about 80 yards from where he was shot, the arrow hole you see in the middle is the quartering away finishing shot. I don't have much confidence I would have saw this buck again with a small broadhead. I had to clean him up a bunch before the pics. Trust me, a Snuffer hit like that is ugly...but effective, they are good insurance when things go wrong. 58 lb Black Widow and 600 grain arrows.

And towards what I think you are getting to with the question....black bears. None of my pics are digital, but I shot my first bear with a 52 lb BW recurve, 525 grain arrows, and two more with a 55lb BW recurve and 580 gr arrows (both P&Y size boars)...all complete passthroughs and 2 of the bears went 30-40 yards, the other (liver shot) approx 125. No blood trail problems!
Ryan
"Decent Iowa Whitetail" he says....
Ryan, I'll take yer scraps any day!
Lookin at your Pop's 160's for my bear hunt this year.
"What are they good for?"
Just about anything that walks the face of this planet!!
I certainly can't add anything here that Ryan and the other guys have.....
I personally love snuffers,, I really can't add anything that hasn't been said but great head,,J
JC,
One of my very good friends hunted with Roger for bears up in Saskatchewan years ago. They all use big Snuffers...I've seen numerous HUGE black bear mounts from that camp. You should have no worries about taking them to Quebec.
Ryan, we are for sure on for '10 so get your Grizzly now ;)
JC, my brother.... I have said this before and will say it here again. I actually enjoy sharpening Snuffers and WW's. It is so easy it is funny ! I get so carried away that I chase people around my house looking for arm and leg hair to test shave. I run out pretty quick, after all a half dozen heads have 18 edges to be tested, right ??? I can get them sharper than anything I have ever tried to sharpen. They are simply wicked ! Right now I shoot a WW, but will probably have to try a big ole 160 Snuffer too.
You know some have signs that say, " Will work for food " ? Well, I will sharpen your heads beyond belief if I can just get one of Miss Kim's cookies or maybe another antelope burger, haha ! :biglaugh:
nocams
Ryan,
Well as the saying goes "a tree doesn't fall far from it's nuts"... :biglaugh:
Paul
Reading the post & viewing the pic's..Seems like there is nothing a snuffer can't handle.
