I just got this bow last week and have been getting used to it. At first I didn't know if it was going to fit, since I normally shoot longbows. The more I shot it, the better I liked it. I am shooting 55-60 spined cedars from it and Heritage 150s.
First, this is the quietest recurve that I have shot and I have shot a bunch of them. It is even quieter than some longbows I've had. It is hard to believe you are shooting a recurve. Second, this thing flat smokes an arrow. It is shooting the same arrows that I shoot out of my Morrison Shawnee Arapaho which is 50@28.
Fit, finish, workmanship is excellent. He calls this one his old school because it has an i-beam in the riser. This one is cocobola with an osage i-beam and yew limbs. Extremely light in the hand with no handshock. Points well, handles easily and is just plain fun to shoot. It is 60" and 44@28. I took it stump shooting Sunday afternoon and for whatever reason, it doesn't carry thru the woods like a 60" bow, it feels shorter. It may be because it balances so well in the hand. You owe it to yourself to get your hands on one of these bows.

Nice lookin bow 4 sure. The shield cut on the tips is a cool accent.
Got one of those oldshool on the way. Mine is Osage, bloodwood and kingwood in the riser with Yew limbs. 53@28, should be pushing 60 at my 30" draw. Nice looking bow man.
One of these, 60@30, you will need flame retardent fletching.
I hear they are real quiet too. JD shipped it this morning so I should get her by Friday. Can't wait.
I NEED TO ASK....WHAT DOES "I-BEAM" MEAN IN THE RISER?
Nice looking bow, the shield cuts tips look excellent!
I got to shoot one of those Whisper Sticks this past weekend... all I can say is, I am getting ready to order one!! One of the quietest and best shooting bows I have shot.

oops...
I-beam means that it has multiple layers of different woods stacked the width of the riser. So when you cut the sight window, the center layer of wood is exposed creating a different color. It is a term that was coind for bows in the late 60's and early 70's with this style riser. Hence the name "Old School". JD
Sure do have some Purty LongBows!! VERY NICE WORK!! :notworthy: :notworthy: :goldtooth:
I like that bow! You guy's keep tempting me!! I'm wearing down fast! I would ask for help, but I wouln't get any here!
JD, go bro!
I should have mine today or tomorrow. JD build that design at my request... He made three all together and they are sweet. I had him change the grip a bit to fit my hand. I will post pics a soon as I get it.
I am the proud owner of one of JD's recurves and I agree with many of the comments made. The two things that I find most impressive about the bow are 1.) Grip design and 2.) Quietness. The bow is incredibly "shootable" and because the grip is designed to place the hand consitently every time, it really promotes accuracy. These are very nice bows indeed!

OK, I'm tetterin' on ordering a bow! never done THAT before! So, should it be 58 or 60in. Any diff.? at 28" draw...
From concensus, I take it that the Mojostik is fast? Suggestions for wood combos?
mine should be here tomorrow.i'm leaving right now to go work for 16 hours.man, its gonna be a long night. :(
cant wait for my 60!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)
Easternarcher- the 58" will be fine at your draw or any draw for that matter. I think the 60" bows are the most forgiving and they really dont seem all that long in the field. I have been doing a lot of testing with the new 56" protoype and this bow is a nice option too if you want a short bow. The difference between the 58" and 60" is not measurable.
Pinecone has one of the prettiest Mojostiks ever built, Its tulip and ebony. I love that wood combo. She deffinitly got my favorite whisperstik, I shot it a couple times before it left. The grip was perfect, super quiet and fast. I almost laid claim to that one Claudia.
So, if you are looking for wood combos, you cant go wrong with tulip and ebony. I think there is a couple photos on here of the tulip and ebony bows JD has built.
Yep, I definately got a real beauty...and I am soooo glad that you didn't grab her before I had my chance, Sticks! If I had better pictures I'd post them , but I truly have nothing that would do the bow justice. The tulipwood is absolutely stunning!
Claudia
Mine is a 60" and I draw 30". Can't tell you yet but I have hade a 60" recurve before with no problems. At a 28" draw you shouldn't have any trouble with a 58 or 56 incher for that matter. The 60 will be a little more forgiving though.
You could probably shoot either one. As stated in my original post, the bow seems shorter when carrying it thru the woods. I had planned on getting a 58" but liked the looks of this one better. I don't think I made a bad decision to go with this one.
I have to agree with y'all, JD makes one heck of a nice bow. I had the 58" demo in my sweaty mitts for a week and hated to send it on it's way.
The 60" is sooooo smoooth,, but I think that is one of JD's biggest advantage to his bows,, they are butter smooth,, very positive point and well balanced in the feild,, oh yeah whisper quite, I love jd's bows and hope to have a few of them in the future,, for a Michiganiac bow builder,,he's a rockin dude for sure,, Good Job JD and God bless you in you endevor on you bow building,,
Great looking bow,,
Beautiful hunk of wood Crash.
What is the brace height on that 60" bow. It looks like they have a high brace height.
I agree with whitebuffalo, my 60" Mojostik is super smooth, dead quiet and points great.
britts, I believe JD recommends a 7 3/4 to 8 inch BH on the 60"
In a 53# whisperstik recurve @28 shooting 29.5 inch arrows with 150 or 180 German kinetic Sliverflame BH what would be yalls arrow of choice, say carbon???
When you are looking for arrows for the whisprstik, you will probably need a stiffer spine than you think. JD says that all the time and in my experience it is true. On a 56# at 29.5" figure that to be a 62# bow. With that much weight in the front, I would say your arrows will need to be 65-80's, maybe more. Multitudes of choices in arrows. And, I also believe each archer can shoot a different arrow from the same bow. Try some different ones in that range and find what you like. Whisperstiks will blister carbons at un-godly speeds.
Recurve 60" inches 53# @28 , I want to shoot a good carbon, thought like 150 or 250 CX...but which one with 150 or 180 grain head..???
Sweet looking bow. My list of have to tries is getting longer and longer.
I would have to say the 250's will work. The 150 is going to be too weak out of that bow.
I agree with Sticks. I am shooting 44 at 28 inches using a 150 29.5" long with a 175 grain head. I think you would need the 250.
thanks guys!!!!! I will try some if I can find couple to try..Mark#78
Wasn't home today but the mail lady left me one of those slips. I'll be waiting when the post office opens tommorrow.
I just got my 58" longbow from JD today. I recently sold a longbow and wasn't going to get another one for awhile but after talking to him on the phone I couldn't resist. The limbs are waterfall bubinga with a paduak riser. Now I just have to wait for some arrows. JD was extremely helpful and friendly and sent email updates on the progress of the bow.
Well, I'm not bashing JD, as I just know he's busy with life and filling all your orders for new bows, but.....I had a couple of short emails with JD about one of his stock bows, and he told me he'd send additional pics within a couple of days...That was over almost 2 weeks ago.
I emailed him twice since to gently remind him, but no reply.
Sorry about the wait on the pics. The bow isn't at my house to take pics of. I'll try to remember my camera the next time I stop into the archery shop that it is hanging at. JD
Got my OLDSCHOOL mojo today. Love the grip. The bow is very quiet and smoking fast. Smooth out past 30" too. I have to find the right arrow, nock point and brace height combo. I know it is going to take a stiffer arrow than I thought. 53@28" 60" Whisperstick, Old School riser, kingwood osage and bloodwood. Osage and yew limbs. Leather grip. Here is some pics...

Very nice Wally! Your boy is growing fast!
hatchchaster....let me know what arrows work for you....i have abow very much like yours thanKs mark#78...AND WHAT GR, bh
It is amazing David,he is growing way to fast. Bayou I know that a 31.5 inch gold tip 55/75 with 125 grain tips and 100 grains behind the insert is too weak. I have some full length CE 350's that I think I can make work. I don't like going shorter than 31". I figure I am drawing 59 lbs. at 30". Did I mention This bow is the fastest bow I have had.
Im not crazy about Goldtip arrows myself...I have CX 150 and 250 test arrows coming to me ...350 prob what you need ...keep in touch ...Ill let ya know how mine work..ok..thanks...I see a second bow in my future... :)
You know I didnt even think of you guys sticking more weight behind the point! Or using brass inserts. Those 55-75's would work with 125 tips, if you had just a 15 grain aluminum insert. You might need CX 350s with all that weight up front.
Hatchaser, the bow looks like it may be too big for you and you seem to be "plucking" the string on your release. Maybe the fella with the hat in the last pic can shoot it till you grow into it...LOL
Seriously, these are NICE looking bows. Always liked an I beam riser. Do you have any pics of the other side of the riser with just the Kingwood? That is my new favorite wood. I can't get enough of it. Congrats on the new bow...Mike
How do you guys like the bowsocks that came with the whisperstiks? My wife makes them for JD and she wanted to know what the rest of the world thought of them.
He's not dropping the bow arm though. That little rascal will probably be outshooting me within the year.
I'll try to get you a pic of the other side of the riser.
Sticks, your wife does a wonderfull job on the bow socks. I especialy like the slide fastener on the string.
I have had an all around great expierience dealing with JD. I highly recomend one of these if you like a 50's style curve.
I like the bow sock as well. That's the reason I kept the bow. ;)
A+ on the bow sock.
I got this one from John,, John's wife just got this pattern in and I LOVE IT!!!

Hatchaser, his follow through is already better than mine. I appreciate the pics if/when you get the chance. Thank you...Mike
Here you go Moose....

Dude! Thats pretty....I cant wait..there fast huh hatch???? :) Marco
Thanks Hatch, beautiful wood. I sure do love that Kingwood, goes nice with the osage to. Thanks for the pic...Mike
BTW, is that the standard grip on Whisperstik recurves? It looks to be very comfortable...Mike
I think it is the standard grip. It is different but very comfortable.
Wally i guarantee he will be outshooting you soon my 11 year old is giving me all i can handle now!
