What type of plastic you guys use on the form to keep it clean from the Smooth-On. Currently using an open wood form. Was using painters tape with TB3. :rolleyes:

Saran Wrap works good, just tape it in place

Harbor freight has shrink wrap. I have used the yellow caution tape

Whatever brand of plastic wrap my wife has in the kitchen drawer :D - it is actually a sore spot with her in regards to my bow building - mostly because I never return it and when I do she is not excited about all the dust that comes with it. lol

LOL Cameron. I use saran wrap. I cut the roll in half and that still leaves plenty to wrap a bow up.

I use stretch wrap by the case...even sell it on my site. I could never stand having the plastic laying on top loosely and sticking to my gloves all the time.
I wrap my form with the stretch wrap and it stays put. Never have any glue infiltrate it except maybe around the bolt holes occasionally.
Then after taping my glue up in to place, I wrap the form and glue up again with stretch wrap, put the hose and top on and I'm done.
Stretch wrap is the stuff that comes tightly rolled on a paper tube with handle. It is widely used in packaging.
Shrink wrap requires heat to pull down tight...different product all together.

Big Jim I like the stretch wrap on the form concept - thanks for sharing...I bet that actually helps hold the lams in place as well as reducing any sliding. I did use stretch wrap on my last HBO bow and liked how it held things together - but had not thought to use the process on my glass bow process.

I saw wax paper mentioned here by another bowyer and tried it. Beats saran wrap, IMO. easier to work with and no worries about plastic sneaking between the lams.

Either way you might want to use paste wax on the form. I use stretch wrap myself. The wax helps with the occasional bleed thru

I put wax paper over my form before glue up. The stretch wrap goes over the bow material. Works for me.

Lots of ways to skin a cat, I guess as long as you get it's skin off, the cat is still skinned.

You guys that are using stretch wrap, do you wrap it around your lower form before you place your glue up in ? Does it cause high spots ? Or are you only putting one strip long ways ?
Hope this question makes sense.

I wrap and overlap the entire lower form. I have never had high/low spots. Not ever an issue and have been doing it for a long time.
When the bow is taped in to place, I wrap it again to keep it off the hose and other things.
I have never used release agent on the forms nor have ever had problems....it kind of causes the excess glue to thin down and spread out as it leaves the bow making it easier to break or grind off.

I use the plastic wrap like BigJim from Homedepot.
I do it a little different now. I lay a piece out on my bench and place my glued stack on it and fold it over and completely wrap it then I place it on my form. I saw South Cox do it on a video. Work slick.

see... ya learn sumthin every day. I was laying the wrap length-wise to avoid high spots. Not gonna do that any longer. Thanks BigJim !

I spiral wrap my bows tight with 3 layers of plastic wrap, this holds all the lams in place and straight, I have never had one slip. I don't cover my form with anything. When I used tape to hold them together I got dents in the glass where the tape was. By wrapping the bow this way I can use any width form without any washers or spacers to hold everything straight.
