Title: Dog Antler Chews for Tip Overlays
Post by: Robyn Hode on November 20, 2014, 10:11:00 AM
I was in the pet store the other day and noticed they were selling all natural deer antlers as dog chews. They had center cut and solid antlers as well as horn tips.

Has anybody ever used dog antler chews for tip overlays? They say there 100% natural. Do you think they would work?

I heard that Canopyboy chews on them all the time..  :)

Yes, deer antler will work for tip over lays, however the center section is porous and needs soaked with super glue first before affixing to the bow.

Do you glue it to the bow tip with superglue as well? I am gluing it to an Osage self bow.

I've used super glue, both thin and gel(gel being the best), TB glues and 2ton epoxy all with good results.
...but do use thin super glue to soak the center pithy part before using any other glue. That pithy part will soak up the glue and leave you with a dry glue joint.
