I feel like this is a silly question, but I have some cordovan brown oil based deck stain that I was thinking of using on a bow. Is this a bad idea or is it viable? I use Tru Oil to finish my bows.
Also on a completely different thought, I'm making a couple of 48" kid's bows and was wondering what might be a good string thickness for Flemish twist? 5 strands per bundle or is that too much?

Depends on the draw weight, but five seems excessive. For kid bows drawing 15 to 25 # I go with six strands on an endless.

The deck stain could work, but I would try it on a test piece of wood and apply the tru oil to see how it works out.
For a kids bow, 10 strand would be excessive. If it's Flemish you want, do two, 3 strand bundles.

Thanks fellas. Experimentation in progress.
