Title: new bow questions
Post by: mike duddy on October 06, 2014, 08:16:00 AM
I just made a new bow and  its acting strange. when I half brace it its about a 1/4 " off, but at full draw the tiller is dead. The weight is about 50#,  But one other thing , when its @ full draw its twisted ,but the twist is even and opposite on both sides. At rest everything is good and even.  I haven't made very many bows, is this normal? The bow is a Red Oak board bow , 67" long 2" wide.  I backed it with 5 strips of nylon camo fabric. I haven't shot it as yet, but that is coming up soon .  I still have to carve the riser. Dose all this sound normal?

Check the limb thickness from side to side. Sounds like one side is stronger(thicker)than the other.
Full draw is more important than 1/4 draw for checking tiller.

Yes, for me it is normal, not right but normal.
If you are right handed you will probably find that the right side of each limb is a little thinner. I have to concentrate on not putting more pressure on my right hand when scraping.
