My bowhunting/best friend and I have decided that before we get to old we want to do a bowhunt for moose (2008. Looks like bowhunting Shiras would take a long time to draw a tag...but we would like to get some helpful input on some good recommended outfitters that will understand Traditional equipment and recurve/longbow bowhunters....we both have been doing this game for forty years and each year the flame burns brighter and hotter than the year before....any postive input will be appreciated...Thanks!

Ernie Holland still outfits for the MooseJohn (Alaska) River I believe. That's the hunt that Jay Massey used to conduct. Bowhunting exclusively, and most who book have been traditional bowhunters. An excellent hunt. Fairly reasonably priced as well. Can buy a tag over the counter. Do need to be a seasoned camnper and doesn't hurt to know a little about rafting as well. Good luck.

I've booked with Cabela's for a few hunts over the years and have been completely satisfied with each one. They send their own folks to evaluate the outfitter and the experience before adding it to their hunt catalog.
I've yet to do this one but have heard good things about it. VERY reasonable for an all-inclusive guided bowhunt for moose:

Contact Dave Bzawy at Alberta Wilderness Guide Service. He's recurve shooter himself, so he understands what you want in shot selection. Very ethical and hard working. I was there two seasons ago, saw seven different bulls, never fired an arrow, yet I'd go back in a heartbeat. Contact him at: [email protected]

You won't be sorry if you go. It was a great hunt with great people. Tell Dave "hello" from Gary Vater. By the way, they have monster whitetails up there too, along with a bzillion coyotes. They're located about an hour NE of Edmonton, near Smokey Lake. Good luck in your search!

I have fished and bear hunted at Howey Bay Resort in Northwestern Ontario. They offer Moose hunt packages with guide Alex Gouthro. He has a DVD and audio calling series all about moose hunting. Check out the books and video section at 3Rivers website or just do an online search for Alex Gouthro.
I haven't hunted Moose (yet), but I know that they would take good care of you. check outwww.howeybayresort.com

Get ahold of Bowhunting Safari Consultants.

Without hesitation, Denali hunts at Denali Hunts.com Some of his guides are stickbow hunters, one is is a primitive bowhunter and bowyer. All of the other guides are bowhunters including Stan (stan also has a stickbow or three), and they all know what a stickobw hunter needs. I've personally guided there and would go again!!! I dont guide however anymore for hunting.
The area holds some MONSTER bulls!!! Including the big bull Larry Jones shot in the bowhunter mag video series. Mr James also shot a very nice bull on that trip.
The outfit has moved some from this area due to draw restrictions, however knowing Stan and the gang they'll be on big bulls!!!
I looked at ernies site the other day and no offense but good thing I wasnt drinking or eating anything, kinda gasped for air! Mind you that was unguided prices. Things have really gone up so I understand why, but still was hard to swallow. This is, like many, a dream hunt for me, and I've killed a pair of stickbow bulls here in AK.
There are a lot of other good guides, but none other that cater to strictly bowhunters and quite a few are partial to stickbowhunters to boot.

Steve is exactly right. Call or E mail Mark at Bowhunting Safari. Mark has exceeded my expectations and I know he can get you set up with the "best" hunt for you. BSC has a website.

Rocky, lots of options here but I'll just add one. I had a great hunt with Eldon Jandreau in Maine. Being a longbow shooter himself he KNOWS what it's all about.
I've never had a guide work harder for me than he did. He's a PBS Regular and Master Maine Guide. He stays booked up but ya never know.

I am hunting moose in Alberta this fall. I have booked with Alberta Wilderness Guides Service or AWGS. His web site is www.ihuntalberta.com (http://www.ihuntalberta.com) . the main stay of his business is rifle hunts for white tails. But a few years ago he started taking archery moose hunters . David is a traditional archer himself and the majority of his moose hunters are traditional bowhunters.

Hey Biggie..I found Eldon's webpage and saw your "smiley face"...nice bear too....Eldon is booked through 2010 on his guaranteed moose tags....Oh Well....probably will do a Elk bowhunt instead.....looks like bowhunting Shiras moose in the states is long and drawn out ordeal that we don't want to mess with....Take Care my friend!
-
Hey man 2010 will be here afore ya know it....

I spoke with Eldon a few times about a Maine moose hunt but I couldn't come up with the $5,000. If I had the cash I would hunt with him...he seems like the real deal. He is featured on Traditional Adventures II I think in one of his moose hunts and it looks ideal for the traditional hunter.
