Nice bows, Pat!
I really dig the carp skins, John.
I like the dye jobs, bowjunkie.

:clapper:
MAN, I wished that hickory stave I have in my garage would dry faster! You guys are artists, I can't wait to try to get a good selfbow out of a stave like you all. If my first one looks 1/4 as good as the ones that you guys are showing off, I'll be about as happy as a man can be. Awesome stuff all, makes me want to make a (non-board) selfbow more than ever.
I just wished I could put my hands on some Osage
-
very awesome!

Mark, I like all of those. I don't know which one I like best.
-
Thanks Sam, there's a bunch of really cool ones on here.
-
I like them all too. I am constantly amazed at all the incredible wood bows being built today. I'm also amazed how some folks still consider them toys.
-
Yep not toys by any means. This guy lasted about 20 seconds after a sharp broadhead went through both lungs. I know bears arent the hardest to kill but I've had deer do the same.

Great tillering on your bows takefive. Superb work if I may say so.
-
Thanks Ironfist. I've made 8 bows so far and about half as many that didn't work out. Picking a board with good grain and tillering it has been the toughest part of the process for me. Glad to belong to a forum where the experienced bowyers are so willing to help. That's much appreciated, too. :)

great looking bows guys.

Hickory backed Purpleheart wide and long. I gave it to a friend for Xmas and cannot remember the weight . I know he shot some rabbits with it.
-
Good looking bow, John. That's a cool wood combination.
-
Jack, I've always loved that "mud flap cutie" bow.
-
Here is the bow I am most proud of;
I met a guy at a tournament who was a badly wounded vet. The first time I saw him, two guys had to carry him to a seat at the BBQ supper. The following year after a lot of rehabilitation he could walk to his seat. At this point I decided he needed a Krewson bow. After talking to him I found my personal bow wouldn't fit him so I went home and headed to the shop.
Here is Gil's team in Afghanistan, he is behind and to the right of Hamid Karzai.
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v181/ekrewson/special%20bows/Gilsteam.jpg) (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/ekrewson/media/special%20bows/Gilsteam.jpg.html)
Gil and one other guy were the only survivors of misdirected laser guided bomb strike directly on their position, the rest of the team and 40 Afghani were killed. Gil was horribly maimed by the bomb strike.
Here is the bow, wish I had taken more pictures, osage with as fancy burl overlays as I could find after digging in the dusty of the corners of my shop.
Handle;
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v181/ekrewson/special%20bows/gilsbowhandlebelly.jpg) (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/ekrewson/media/special%20bows/gilsbowhandlebelly.jpg.html)
Tip overlay with stringing groove;
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v181/ekrewson/special%20bows/gilsbowtipoverlay.jpg) (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/ekrewson/media/special%20bows/gilsbowtipoverlay.jpg.html)
Another handle picture;
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v181/ekrewson/special%20bows/gilsbowhandleback.jpg) (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/ekrewson/media/special%20bows/gilsbowhandleback.jpg.html)
And the best shot of all, Gil in much better shape with Noland holding his bow after we shot a round at Spring Fling at Tannehill park. Gill is legally blind from his wounds and can only see partially straight forward, nothing to the sides. He is a remarkable man indeed, no "quit" in this guy, none at all.

Eric a perfect bow and gesture for a wounded warrior.
Thanks Pat I shoot in Colorado some and that bow is how folks know me,the guy with the girly bow. If I don't shoot with it they ask why. I joke that it is for "bucks only" but shot a nice doe with it :D
I am always in awe of your bows and knowledge :notworthy:

Nice looking bows Keith. Tiller looks good too. :thumbsup:
-
K. Wolfe I would be a little leary about cutting in a deep and long sight window on a wood bow. But thats just me as long as the bow does not take a direct smack on the side it should hold. Nice bow.
-
I've heard that concern before but the profile is why I get away with it. I'll show a side view. Where it is cut in the farthest is where the bow is at full depth of 3 layers of 3/4" (just shy) wood. I've never had a failure in the handle and I'm at about ten years with this style. Did have a limb failure this year and that was the first in years. I kind of copied my recurve at the time and shortened the risers then used that on all my wood bows. My first gen. was pretty blocky. It has treated me well for a long time.

" it is cut in the farthest is where the bow is at full depth of 3 layers " ..............gotcha.

Nice woodworking but is it necessary for a simple wood bow? :dunno:
