Title: let me see your grips and arrow rests!!!
Post by: ffdiggs on January 06, 2014, 09:42:00 PM
Hey everyone been getting great advice and compliments here. Looking for some more advice/inspiration. My first stave bow is an osage with a bulbous handle. looking for ideas for handle treatments and arrow shelfs. Want to do a leather wrap but not sure the best way with it being narrow at the top and bottom of handle and fatter in the middle, and maybe a floppy wrest. Or maybe some type of cordage wrap and just shoot off hand. Give me your thoughts, pics, or spiritual guidance. Thanks

I like deer leather because it's stretchy and pulls tight around the bulbous contour. I add a shelf, built up thick cow leather, then shaped and tapered on my drum sander so that it feathers out to nothing, showing no visible edges under the leather grip.

Nice looking grips. Kinda liking the black leather with the rolled top and bottom. How thick of leather do you all normally use? I got some old leather coats, but the leather feels kinda thin.

X 2 on those great looking grips.  I like using leather that is thin enough that it has a little stretch to it so it's easy to form it to the handle.  I buy scraps from a local store that makes jackets and gloves.

Coats will work but a bit thicker is better imo. I use deer hide or upholstery leather.
