Title: my lightest bow.
Post by: bigbob2 on January 06, 2014, 06:11:00 PM
Just about finished the lightest bow to date, only 28# @ 28''. It was to be white wood riser but the only suitable riser wood came up pale yellow under finish coat.  (http://i1256.photobucket.com/albums/ii485/bigbob292/001-20.jpg) (http://s1256.photobucket.com/user/bigbob292/media/001-20.jpg.html)

Riser material is Silver Ash/ PNG Walnut with Gidgee accent strips. Belly lams are natural 'boo

Core is natural' boo and 'coffee' 'boo, and perhaps weidly I still used 4 lams in the build even with the light weight. Makes it easy with stack calculations and think that the extra glue lines might contribute strength, with a possible trade off against more mass.  (http://i1256.photobucket.com/albums/ii485/bigbob292/002-12.jpg) (http://s1256.photobucket.com/user/bigbob292/media/002-12.jpg.html)

String is only a workshop tool as I didn't have a new one to hand.  (http://i1256.photobucket.com/albums/ii485/bigbob292/002-12.jpg) (http://s1256.photobucket.com/user/bigbob292/media/002-12.jpg.html)

thanks for the kind comments fellas. Trying to keep tip mass to a minimum especially on the lighter bows. I did jump the gun a little as it really hasn't got much finish on it as yet. Pity it is too heavy for ol' Roy. Think he needs to get a little glass in his life, take away the gl???   :bigsmyl:    :bigsmyl:    :bigsmyl:    :goldtooth:    :goldtooth:
