Well a very good freind of mine is having his annual Chili shoot Feb 24th. Great time and great freinds. I wanted to make something for Him and thought this target would be fun. It is what I call THE BAD APPLE CHALLENGE. It is made from a piece of 1/4" steel and I hand cut the apple with a grinder. The apple is 5.25" X 3.5" Took awhile but I really wanted to get this done for him. He plans on giving 100 points to add to the score of anyone who makes it through the apple.I know the apple is not perfect but close enough!LOL. So what ya think? <>< (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v83/fishrofmen1/DSCN1058.jpg)

LOL :readit: :help:

Those steel targets are a lot of fun. Our club has steel deer, javelinas, and turkeys with just a small vital cutout. We use them once or twice a year at 3d shoots. I like setting a steel target at close range, say 15 yards for the turkey, worth 25 points for a vital hit. Or you can shoot the foam turkey at about 40 yards with standard scoring. It's interesting to see who chooses which target and what happens.

Yep I think it will be fun to see arrows smashing into it. I plan on making another one for mine and shells good freinds Kevin and Sue of RER bows. They have a annual shoot in august which is a night shoot with tiki torches. Now that's a BLAST.<><
-
big ron you'd be safe, if they put it under 25 I shoot over and be good to go as well!!!!
-
Cleve, If they put it at 50 yards then youd be on the money. Just think of the bets ya could win LOL
-
Watch out for the ones that want to bounce straight back at you.
-
This is where I borrow someone's arrows to shoot!
Dan
-
Hey Dan, I always try to find a lost arrow back in the bushes to use. (finders keepers)
-
Why don't you paint a person's face(with a very nervous expression) below the apple.
-
Piece of cake!
-
I'll have my camera handy when Franks arrows explode! LOL!!! Bring plenty of arrows Buddy I'm shootin yours. LOL!!!
-
LEROY your the arra maker so I plan on shooting yours. BTW I already shot through the apple at 13yrds. CS no worry about them coming back at ya. I am sure after the shoot LeRoy will attest to that after all his arrow just smash into it and lay there. I will be sure to snap a pic or two for posting. :biglaugh: :biglaugh: <><

good luck to whoever doesnt lose and arrow on that thing.

we have a steel goat in our safari shoot we shoot that at 40 yards every time someone shoots it you here people laughing. some even crying. LOL!!! its fun. iam getting ready for the shoot it is on the 24-25 of this month. so we will have tons of wood chips .
-
Our club has an small wooden coffin below the steel plate shot.
All broken arrows, get left there for someone with a shorter draw length to pick from
-
there usally at all the shoots i go to most of the time there is two steel targets one a hole and one an animal with a hole in it. i usally shoot two arrows at both and some times break two just on those targets. they sure are fun it makes you scared some times though.have fun with them
-
Arrow makers love those targets. :bigsmyl:
-
Everytime you hear a PING! an arrow gets its wings. :D
-
That's one for rubber blunts, for sure! I'd give it a try out to 20 yds. What the heck...Rose City makes POC shafts everyday when I need more.
:archer:
Cleve, hang it on a stump at 50 yrd and you'd good to go.

I don't get it... maybe I'm strange or something. Where is the fun in losing an arrow? To me, the arrow is as important a part of things as the bow, and they cost money. I'm not poor, but I am retired and I'd rather shoot the same arrows and save money for another bow. I try to take care of my arrows and hate it when I lose one. It isn't something I laugh about. I don't take shots that are doubtful for me if they are backed up by rocks, steel, fast flowing rivers or deep gulleys I can't get down to. At a 3D, I pass such shots and figure I may have saved $5 to $8. If there are too many on a given course, I probably won't go back to that one. Too many shots I feel I should pass spoils it for me, as does going home with fewer arrows than I came with. Guess it's a case of different strokes...

sticshooter,i dont know about you but i cant resist steel targets.results are usually the same!at least i get my field tip back sometimes
-
I can shoot a rubber tipped blunt through a steel target every time, but a field point will strike steel every time. Seems like I think about hitting the steel with the breakable arrow just as I release and make it come true. So, carry a rubber blunt for 3-D shoots just in case.
-
That is awesome, the arrow makers will LOVE you!
-
Frank your cruel!!! :saywhat:
-
Eric I think you are onto something with that 'Kilroy' type head painted under that arrow..I have an old Howard Hill short where he is shooting an apple, then a tangerine, than a plum, then a cherry- off a guy's head- the guy lets him get down to the cherry before he ran off....pretty funny...he did it with broadheads..amazing. You'd never get the insurance for something like that nowadays.
Dick- you answered the question yourself- if you don't like it don't shoot it...but some of us like it for the same reason Paul Schafer shot his own camera at 90 yards on a 10 dollar bet..its something we like to do for the challenge!! I KNOW I can put that arrow through that hole...I carry junkie stump shooting arrows to shoots just for stuff like that and if they get messed up..I make some more.
Why not make yourself some cheap dowel arrows if you want to participate on that stuff and don't want to lose your good arrows....I and many just enjoy trying to thread the needle...in hunting, you sometimes HAVE to know where your arrow trajectory is because while it isn't steel, per se, the hole is in brush and if you don't get the arrow through, you don't GET the game.
Every man has his poison!
-
Dick -- you don't haaaave to lose the arrow, you could hit the cut out ;) I never plan to miss, ever...although there is a doe this year that disagrees and I've left one arrow in the coffin on LI (but I shot that target 8 times ;) )
Oh...if you shoot junkers, that's cheating...you have to care to make it worth while, man! LOL
This year at the bunny hunt in NY (as with every year) -- NO RUBBER BLUNTS...hit your mark, or pick up the pieces.
Bring it, baby!
-
Hey Brian!!!!! I've got a KnuckleHead Kid that'll give you a run for your money!!!!! He don't give a hoot about the arrows (long as Dad's buying them) He's pretty dang good too!!!!! :archer:
-
I have never lost one of MY ARROWS on a steel target. I always grab one of LeRoys. And if he's not around I sneak one of Shells.<><
-
So that's where they all went!!! What a SKUNK!! LOL
-
I dont care how far away from those targets every time I hear the "clank" I giggle --love the challenge.
-
I shoot junkers because like a 5 dollar pair of sunglasses they just keep hanging around.
If I shot the good ones they would disappear in a flash.
-
Shot it twice. Once with a woodie just to see it turn into toothpicks. And them witha alumarra and wisked it right trough the apple. Shells brother was in awe and now thinks I am the best shot in the worldLOL. I will never tell him just how lucky that shot was.<><
-
I really like those targets but they are a dilemna.....I want to shoot the junkers and expendable arrows at them....but they don't fly as well and really your best arrow gives you the best chance to hit the spot.....but they can be heartbreaking and expensive to bust up your best tuned arrows......but you should be confident enough and concentrate on the hole - what steel plate?........but you know that everyone is looking and just waiting to laugh at your busted shaft......but you can do it! and you only live once....draw....release....CLANK!!!!
