Title: Glad I listened to all those who were mad at selling
Post by: Kingstaken on March 01, 2008, 04:08:00 PM
To all you guys who wished you had never sold that one bow thank you for waking me up as to not make the same mistake. Maybe it was ya first trad bow, or used for ya first trad kil I thank you.
Becuase you see I had my TD Hatfield up for sale a few times.
I sold her to a friend for $135 and was able to get her back for the same amount. I put it up here last year and someone wanted it so I was stinging it up for what I thought to be the last time to say good bye. You see this was my first trad bow I purchased about 15 years ago when I was first getting bored with the whellies. My buddy Richie Lupo but on a set of snake skins for me and really tricked it out. It might have been his first or second time I think.
Well as I was stringing her up the top limb split right down on both sides.      :(       Many there goes a sale I thought.
So while at my local indoor range I had spoken to one of the owners who is a friend of mine. He said he had just purchased a lighter set of limbs for his and would sell me his heavier 60# almost new limbs for $50. Of coarse I took them and ran out of the shop because I know they're worth quite a bit more then that and didn't wnat him to give a chnace to change his mind.
I put it up here for sale again and was willing to take $250 for it. I had quite a few intersted parties but no sale. It was like noone wanted a Hatfield TD bow which today goes for over $700.00 at what I thought was a great price.
Well, I figured today I would shoot it with another bow I had just received from bowmac in my yard. I don't know if it was the sunn shinng with spring right around the corner but aftre the frist two shots everythinbg was like when I first bought her. The romance has rekindled and even though I prefer my Berry longbow's this bow will never go to up to sale again. This will be my turkey blind bow.
So again I say "Thank you."

I bet all of us remember our first.  Most of us with fondness.

I'll never forget my first bow either.

Sold my first bow and still reget it.My first real recurve anyway. A real thing of beauty she was. I bought it used in a sporting goods store  in 1967.I paid $50.00 and had to make payments.Whenever I had a spare buck or two I'd stop in and look her over. Funny, never did know the maker. The only info on the bow was 50# @ 28".
It appeared to be a rosewood riser with brown glass in front and green on the back. I shot that bow for years. Then I acquired others. I had a friend who was just getting started and needed a bow. I sold him my first for $25.00. Keep in mind, that was about 20 years ago.
I thought about the bow from time to time. I had lost contact with this guy over the years. I ran in to him about 3 years ago and asked about the old bow.He had gone to wheel bows and given the old bow to his brother. I asked him to see if his brother would be willing to sell it if it was not being used. Never heard back.
There is no doubt that what I am shooting now is likely much better but there were a ton of memories in that first bow. Depending on the care it has had over the years it may not even be shootable any more. If not, it sure would look nice hanging on my wall.
My advise, for what it's worth, if you have any doubts and are not pressed to sell hang on to it a  little while longer. See if you still feel the same way later. If not turn it into cash and move on.
You have quite a history with that Hatfield. Sounds like it is meant to be your bow.

               Take care,
                         Ed
