Title: A First, and The last
Post by: Guru on March 01, 2008, 07:26:00 AM
I have a little patch of rabbit heaven by my house, but sadly I don't get to hunt it much. It's tight to houses, and I don't dare shoot a gun in there so it makes it perfect for the bow.

Being to day was the last day of our small game season here in NY, I figured I better get in there so I can at least say I did it once this year.

I also decided to take Cade on his first bunny hunt ever. He wouldn't carry his bow, but he sure still wanted to go when I asked!

With only about 45min. till dark we had to hurry a bit. But I did manage a few running shots, that Cade got to watch. He also saw some bunny's that I didn't see as they snuck out the back door on me, or they moved out of nearby cover while I pushed another.

He didn't care for the briars at all! So I don't think he's quite ready for the JLMBH. But with another year to grow, a little bigger and stronger, we'll see about next year.

Only problem is now we both wish we had more time in the season to do it again!

Glad that you and Cade had a last chance to go after them together-time well spent. Hopefully he'll get over the briar thing, pretty sticky for a young one.

Cool,I thought about hittin that spot down the street from me yesterday with my LB but figured I'd better let Sonny's tail rest a bit as I may go up north for their last weekend.Close's the 16th up there and I haven't been up since last fall.

The kids at the JLMBH didn't care for the briars either go figure    :biglaugh:

Pretty cool Curt, I'm sure that it won't be long before the briar's a just a simple nuisance to Cade and he'll be right along side the rest of us at Shawn's......I can't wait for the day he comes with you.

Did Vance say WY antelope hunt? I'll bet we could make that a father/son hunt with a lil effort. And then, there's always trout school. I figure, we need to start us up a camp out west, don't you think Guru?  :bigsmyl:

I believe Cade will be there next year, he can do the first few pushes and the girls(Cindy, Nicole, Allison and Heather) can keep an eye on him until we get back. It sure is nice to get out and hunt with the kids. The kids hunt at the bunny hunt was the highlight for me!! Great pics. bud!! Shawn

Curt, take advantage of every opportunity you get to spend quality time with your son. It seems that it's gone before you know it and then all you have left are the memories you made while you had the chance. I wish I had taken the time to keep a journal while mine were growing up so I could go back and relive all those wonderful moments in time that are soon hard to recall.

Puff up that chest and stick out that chin and be proud of yourself and your son. It obviously a strong team that's only going to grow stronger.

Pop

I have to echo Pop Kellar Curt. Before you know it they're taking you along like you did with them just a few (?) years back.
You're raising a fine young man in a great tradition there.

Great to spend some time together in the field isn't it? I remember when Joe was younger he also hated briar's, It was kind of comical to watch him try to go through them, now you can't hold him back. Cade's day will come, but don't be in to much of a hurry they grow up fast enough on there own. I also enjoyed your article in TBM, it's kind of neat to read an article in your favorite magazine that was done by a person that you have spent a little time with.

My little 3 yr old daughter sure felt left behind the other day...she's not quite ready(although she thinks she is), but I can see all three of us out there soon!!!

Guru, when I was three, I was ready to walk back to California. From Hawaii.
I was immediately enrolled in swimming lessons given by some sadistic woman in a work-release program. It worked, and soon I was picking pennies from the bottom of the pool, and playing tricks on the lifeguards on the anchored rafts at the beach.

She just might surprise you.  ;)
