Saturday February 17th. I would suggest meeting at the Meijer parking lot off of the US 127 kipp rd exit(Mason) The state game area is 10 minutes from there. It's a huge area there will be plenty of stomping.... Would 8am work.... whos in???
-
I am there. I will be bringing myself a friend Rick and possibly his son. And I will still have room in my truck for another if anybody wants to carpool. Man you are going to kill me with the 8am thing on a Saturday but I am sure I can do it. We will have to see if everybody wants to do a lunch in the woods or what. Man I can't wait.
Talk to you soon....Tim
-
Tim... I figured we probably would leave Meijer parking lot sometime between 830 and 900 am. I'm saying meet at 800 leave around 830. 30-45 minutes should give everyone ample time to get there and shoot the breeze.
-
I will let you know for sure late next week. It looks like there will be at least of us from Greenville. Somebody should bring a video, I bet there will be some good footage :D
-
Whoops I meant to say 4 of us from Greenville
-
That sounds awsome. Yeah that will give us time to get to know one another and at least introduce ourselves. I will bring a digital camera and I will see what I can do about getting a video camera.
-
I'll be going. My wife is to try and get that day off. If she can't I'll figure something out. Tim if you have room a carpool sounds great! Looks like it's going to be a great time! :clapper: :goldtooth:
-
Looks like a great get together. Unfortunately my daughter has a swim meet on the 17th so I can't make it. I have spent a lot of time hunting in the Dansville area when I lived in Lansing. The Wooden Nickle always had good food, too.
You guys be sure to post results from the hunt.
Tim, I see you are in Holland, I live in West Olive and work in Zeeland. If you are interested in shooting or something, PM me and I will get you contact info.

AnointedArcher , If anyone would like a ride I'm just 20 min north of greenville. I live in Stanton. Or if you got room I might like to hitch one myself.
I'll bring my camera 6megs pix camera with an 2gig memory card and great video footage. Anyone up for a raffle or 50/50, I'll raffle a free shoulder mount and Become the arrow book ,lightly used. Maybe give all proceeds to ST. Judes Hospital. Man I would love to do something like that. I tell you what, I'll throw in a free small game full mount also IE, squirrle, rabbit, coon, pheasent, grouse. So two mounts donated in the hat for me and a book anyone else? I'll get the tickets too.JB.
-
I'll coridnate the raffle. Again this would be for the St.Judes hospital. We'll say $5.00 a ticket or $15.00 for four or we can do a 50/50. If anyone else would like to give for this just pm me. J.B.
-
Arwin, I will have lots of room. I was thinking we could meet at the corner of M-6 and M-36 (I think that is the one into Hastings). I am not sure if there is someplace there that you could leave your vehicle or if you know of a better place that would be cool to. Just let me know.
-
thanks to whitebuffalo for the raffle. I will include a used 45# rh redwing hunter recurve. This rabbit trek will be judo, or blunt only. No fieldpoints or broadheads allowed. If anyone would like to donate to the whitebuffalo raffle that would be great. Once we get a good idea of who all is attending we'll decide on lunch in the woods or at the town diner.`thanks guys!!!

Tim I can do that. There is a car pool parking area at the intersection of M37 and M6, on the northeast side of the highway. The place i work for is visible from that section. It's called Harder and Warner Landscape. :campfire:
-
Arwin, sounds good then I will figure on that.
Thanks,
Tim
-
Jason did you get my email? If we can make it we will have plenty of room to car pool. I hope to know if we can make it by the 15th.

The car pool deal sonds great.
-
Jason, thanks for the head's up. I don't know yet if I can make it. I already have one conflict (teaching archery) and may add another (finally making my long bow). Of the three, hunting sounds best, but if we get scheduled to build bows that day, it'll take priority. I will mention this Monday night at our Trad League even if I can't go. If I'm not building a bow, I'll blow off the class and be there. Arwin, happy birthday. You share it with my wife, but she claimed the date waaaaaay ahead of you!
-
Thanks Dave!! It's strange being in the 30's age bracket now. I need my walker! LOL! Tell your wife Happy Birthday also and God bless!

Ok, I've got 6 nutters ready for stump and destroy mision and 6 more I need to finish. Anyone else shootin ramin wood the 17th?
-
I will be shooting Cedar and aluminum Flu Flus with Judos and probably some aluminums with Judos. I got the back quiver full already just sitting and waiting.
-
Hey guys... I'm trying to get this thing rolling... We are going to have a blast with few or many!!! Im shooting ce heritage with ace hex blunts. I saw two bunnies catching some rays in the brush along us127 this morning... Guess I should keep my eyes on the road huh? At least i wasnt talking on my cell phone!!...LOL Can I get a vote for lunch in the woods or at the wooden nickel.
-
Jacob, I would say as far as lunch goes it depends on how many people we are going to have. If we only have a few of us I would say the Nickel but if we get a good size group I would think lunch in the woods would be better. But I am up for either one. I do agree with you we need to figure it out so we can plan on what everybody is going to bring if we eat in the woods. I guess we will see who else posts and what they think. Talk to you soon...Tim
-
We will make a final decision on lunch plans on wednesday the 14th. So far we have fellows from stanton, hastings, holland, greenville, dansville, clarkston, mason, and williamston that have expressed interest. I am going to the Michigan longbow association banquet tomorrow and will touch base with others. If this works out .. maybe we can make it an annual deal...
-
Hey Jason I will be shooting a combination of Ramin, Cedar, Chundo.
Lunch in the woods, sounds like a fire and pot of chilli coming up :campfire:
-
I'll bring all the condiments like, plates, bowls, sporks, cups, instant coffee, sugar, creamer, 2 gallons of water,I'll bring a two litre of Dew and coke also. I cant cook anything except eggs and steaks.
I put this toghether from both of last years bunny hunts.

I am going to see what I can do. I would love to make it. I will keep you all informed.

Jason, That looks like a great time you are going to make this a very long week looking forward to this. The kids at the end of the slide show are awsome.
Tim

I called a buddy of mine today and he said he might be game so maybe two comming from stanton but me for sure.
I was gettin the dog warmed up today and getting some shootin in, Couple of short vids of the day. We ran one rabbit and If I would have stayed put in my spot I would have had a 5 yrd shot. I watched him go by me at about 20 yrds. Theres few shots at 20 yards where I hunt them I usually hope for a ten or under and then I still miss'em. :knothead:  Maybe this weekened will be different.

Me and rose got out right before dark and worked one pile. A bunny jumped but no shot.Rosie was on it for about 40 yards to its hole.Guess it didn't want to play
-
went out stomping yesterday morning.... saw two..no shots Went to and joined michigan longbow association banquet. Wonderful people. Met Steve Turrey of Northern mist longbows. Great guy. Sounds as if 2 from Bath, mi and 2 from Williamston Mi. will be coming. Assuming, we will be eating in the woods, we'll have to start putting together a menu. I have a ton of venison and have no problem handling the chili...
-
Holy Cow!!! This should be a great turnout for hunters. I'm praying that there is: 1.no snow,I plow it. 2.My wife had the day off. Other than that I'm ready!
-
I was at my Parents house this weekend (in Mt. Morris just north of Flint) and I was talking to my dad about the hunt and he said he is in as well. So it sounds like we are rounding up quite the crew. That is great. My dad and I spent 3 hours at the archery range on Saturday with my nephew. I just bought my nephew a Crow Creek longbow for Chirstmas/Birthday and he wanted to go shoot it. Well it sounds like things are starting to get put together and lunch in the woods sounds fantastic. Talk to you guys all soon.....Tim
-
Hey Jason , looks like I should be able to go.I will hook up with jeff (anointed archer) for car pool details, see you there,
Brad
-
Well, just got it comfirmed yesterday. I'll be making laminations in prep for a long bow building session on the 24th. Guess I'll have to pass on this hunt. I've been trying to get this bow build for about a year and a half. I WILL have it completed soon!
-
I shot in a trad league at Looking glass sportsmans club last night... Yes... I do need some serious practice. I had 4 others express interest in the hunt. Possibly two more good beagles.... Everyone keep this thread going so I have a good idea of how many are attending..Can't wait to meet yall.....Steve
-
Arrrrgh!!! My wife has to work Saturday, so I'm out for this one. I'll have to get together with you all in the near future for sure.
:banghead:
-
Arwin... Im sorry to hear that. I feel that you're the one that pretty much started this trek. We will be sure to keep in touch and hunt together soon!!! Steve
-
Arwin, That is a bummer man. I will wave at you when I drive past Saturday morning. We should definatly hook up and do some hunting or maybe even just some stump shooting very soon. Keep in touch and maybe we can set something else up at a later date. Talk to you soon....Tim
-
Arwin I'm sorry to here that man, we'll have to set a different date.
Bowdidley, I'll drive down, I might have two others with me,I'll know by wednesday.
Jacob, could you do chili or steaks,Its up to you.
I'm brining, crackers, Bowls, Plates, Spoons, Forks, Pop, Water, Coffee (instant), Cups, salt&pepper, Paper napkins,
I have a turkey cooker bottom I could bring if need be,let me know.
-
Oh another thought on my mind was the raffle. I need some feedback on weather its a raffle or a 50/50 or nothing at all by wednesday. If theres no response to it by then it will be lack of intrest and we won't have it. So far we have a wing recuurve,Two taxidermy mount coupons and a Book. Thanks Jason B.
-
Jason.... go ahead and bring the turkey cooker bottom. I'll have a huge pot of chili. Do you need me to bring a propane tank?? As far as the raffle goes.. we can see who all turns out and who is interested and decide at Meijers.
To all... remember your small game license, something orange, and judos and blunts.
-
Jason,
Great pics. I had a blast last year, but won't be able to make it this time.
-
I'll bring the tank too. Cool,
-
It's looking good for me to make it, but will know for sure Wednesday. Bowdidley & Robslifts will be joining me as well.
Jason I have a 7 passenger Mini Van if that is not big enough then we will just have to caravan it down there.
As for food maybe I can bring some good ole cornbread to go with the chilli. I will bring some hot sauces to add as you feel necessary.
I think the raffle sounds great, but like Jacobsladder said if there is not a huge turn out we can do the 50/50 thing.
Now we just have to pray that my wife gets good news from the doctor, that's what I am waiting on. If she gets a good report then I am clear to go but if it's not I will need to stay home and hang out with her. So I truly would appreciate your prayers, not so I can go but so my wife can get healed!
I really hope my bow arrives between now and then. I sold all my bows to buy a Super Shrew Classic Hunter. It was suppose to be here by Friday but nasty weather might cause it to be delayed.
-
I was hoping the same thing. I just bought a Super Shrew Chameleon off a fellow Tradganger and I was hoping to have it before this weekend. I still have the SS Scout and the Checkmate Raven I can hunt with though. I have the back quiver loaded up with about 15 Flu Flus all with Judo points and I am ready to rock and roll. I will pick up some 2-liters of pop and I will see what I can talk the wife into baking for cookies or something along that line. I will for sure be there and I will know for sure by Thursday afternoon if a friend of mine from over here will be joining me and I will try and get a deffinant answer from my dad if he will be coming to. Talk to you guys soon. Tim
-
I will bring a couple SAM's size pack of hot dogs. If the pot is boiling, they will be good!
QUESTION: Will the launcher be there???? I've been dreaming of shooting those stupid flying duct balls since last year!
Bring your hand warmers and warm boots. It should be a cold one . . .
I'll probably be carrying my little Browning Nomad, but I might also carry a Chek-Mate TD1 or Fedora. Same old trouble for an accumulator . . . too many choices available!!!
Am I right that the meet up is 8am at Meijer from the Kipp Road exit?
Steve
-
By the way, Jason . . . from the arrow flight on that stump shot, it doesn't look like you're using that beefy Martin any more. I look forward to seeing the bows and shooters again.
Steve
-
Yeah,,,, That was about a 90# spine and heavy ramin wood arrow. They seem to hold up to major abuse very well and cheap. I'll have my speedy arrows too, LOL!!. I'll bring buns for the hot dogs. I'm not sure if the launcher is going to be there. If memory serves me right,,,, that fella came with someone else. Hope he gets word that was Fun! Weather doesn't look all that bad for sat.
-
I'll be shooting a kohannah 60" flatbow. My son a 45lb little hawk longbow.
Mason meijers parking lot at 8am on saturday. We can meet directly behind the Meijer gas station in the main parking lot. I will bring a small propane grill for the hot dogs.
Jason are you still good for the chili bowls and spoons??
-
Yes indeed, I got my list of stuff.
-
ttt
-
Ok... it is a definite lunch in the woods. We will determine the raffle based on attendance and participation. Im hoping to leave Meijer no later than 845 and be in a hunting spot by 9am. In case there are any problems that would cause someone to be late please p.m. for my cell #. I will warn you that verizon coverage is spotty in the dansville area. Can you hear me now!!!!
-
jacobsladder, the place we are going hunting do we need 4 wheel drive or will my van be able to get in and out of where we are going?
-
OK, Its just me comming, See you guys at 8:00 am.
-
Anointed Archer... I would say bring the van. If we have any problems i'll have my 4x4. We will be driving on some dirt roads and be parking in the state game parking areas. We wont be driving in any fields or off road stuff. We will probably have a bit more snow due to this last storm. I'll have a tow strap, just in case someone needs a boost.
-
Lets take attendance
WhiteBuffalo and Beagle.. (Jason and Rosie)
Annointed Archer.... (Jeff)
Smalson... (Steve)
JacobsLadder and Son...(Steve and Jake)
Tim are you and family members in?
Anyone else???
-
I have a bronco II 4X4 also.
-
I will be there and I just talked to my dad on the phone and he said he will be there. I will know tomorrow if the guy that I work with is coming or not. So it will be 2 for sure possibly 4. I got cups and some 2-liters of pop and I talked the wife into making cookies. Is there anything else we need? I drive a Z71 Chevy and so does my dad so I am sure if anybody has problems we can solve them. I guess let me know if there is something else we need. Other than that I will see you guys at 8:00 at Meijers (or maybe a little after I am not much of a morning type person). Talk to you guys soon.
Tim

Jason I have a Chevy Blazer as well but we all would not fit into that :biglaugh: I checked on Map Quest and it looks like it will take us an hour and a half from Greenville to get to Dannsville. So we should leave Greenville area about 6:30am. We can meet you at the BP station on the corner of 66 & 57 if you want.
-
Whoops I forgot to add to the roll call.
RobsLifts - Grand Rapids
Bowdidley - Greenville
HunterKody - Greenville
-
Anointed Archer... Make sure you meet us at the mason meijers parking lot ..directly behind the gas station. It's the Kipp rd exit off of US 127. 8am...... Dansville is roughly 10 minutes from there.... Looks like the party is starting to grow... Yeehaw!!!! Hopefully, we can find some bunnies!!!
-
My new bow is suppose to be here today so I can't wait to try it out!
-
I just got my new to me Shrew Chameleon in the mail today. I will be bringing it with me on Saturday. I just talked to the guy that I work with and he has to work on Saturday so he is not coming. So I will be flying solo from Holland.
Tim
-
Awesome Tim, I just called my wife and she said no UPS truck yet. As soon as I get home I will be stalking the driveway waiting for the big brown truck.
Man that's a bummer comming from Holland solo. Sure am looking forward to meeting all you guys!
-
What is the total attendence so far?
-
Jason did you see my earlier post about connecting with you Saturday? I won't be on the web tommorrow so I am going to PM you with my cell number.
-
Jason ... so far it looks like a definite 11 people. There is a possibility of maybe 6 more from my traditional league.. But no definites from them yet. I'll keep you updated.
-
Jeff, I call you soon.
-
Tomorrow is the big day. I was practicing all night last night with nothing but Flu Flus for the big day. Man I feel like a little kid at Christmas I have been kooped up inside for to long. Hope everybody has a good drive if I dont talk to you guys before hand. Talk to you all soon.
Tim
-
Practice? That's a novel idea. I prefer to just look at the bows and visualize where the arrow will go . . . Isn't that the spirit of bowhunting?
Steve
-
Yeah that is normally the way I do it to. But I just got a new bow and I just had to play with it before Saturday. So Steve have you been seeing any rabbits around where you are taking us tomorrow. Is there any last minuet items that anybody can think of that we will need?
Tim
-
I have today off.. the venison chili is simmering. Drove through the State Land today and only saw one bunny out sunning itself along the road. This last snow storm is going to make for some tough hunting for beagles, hunters, and bunnies. The bunnies tend to stay real close to their holes in deeper snow. If the snow crusts over they will move around a bit better. I'm hoping to get us on a 200 acre private piece. But with 12-16 guys that may be tough.. We will see. I've got chili, chips, condiments. Everyone can provide their own beverage. I would like this event to be alcohol free. I cant wait to meet everyone and see your new bows. I am giving a brand new case ridgeback rosewood handled knife to the one that shoots the most rabbits. If we dont shoot any rabbits we will have a drawing for it at the end of the day.
-
That sounds great. I got some 2-liters of Pop and cups and I told my dad to bring a few 2-liters as well. I talked the wife into baking some cookies and I think my mom said she would make some to and send them with my dad. That is a mighty nice gesture of the knife Steve. Hopefully we can get in a good day of shooting even if we dont find any rabbits. Talk to you guys soon.
Tim
-
Ok... the private land is going to happen... We will start out there.... Nice spot! mix of pines, hardwoods, a creek, should be some brush piles and briars. Has not been hunted yet this year for bunnies unless someone trespassed. After that we will have lunch around 1200pm then head to the state land. All of this is within 10-15 minutes from Meijers. Reminder, remember small game license, and something orange. I wouldn't expect to run into the DNR.. but someone could call with such a big group of guys. Bring your cameras and lets have a grreat time.
-
Oh man, I feel like its opening day. Been shooting likw crazy and have all my blunts made up. I used a 125 grain feild point and welded a 5/16 nut on the end, comes out about 190 grains.
They look deadly, I can shoot'em well, hopefully I can hit with'em.
-
Ive got some 125 grain rubber blunts and 125 grain screw in ace hex head bunny busters. My son is shooting wood arrows with 5/16" hex nuts screwed on the taper. Anybody see a Wabbit!!!!
-
I just got back in and BRBRBRBRBRBRRRRRRR!!!!!!! its cold out there tonight. We saw four, my buddy shot one. Rose ran great on all but the last one. It gave her a challenge with all of these bunnies comming out of the same pot hole of a marsh. So there was about four different trails all crossing at different points. But we had a blast, I got one shot it went behind him.
-
Hey Guys, Thanks for the great day chasing bunnies, the company was great as well as the chili and bean soup>To bad we didnt get a lot of longears going ,OH WELL!,theres always next time, still all in all a great time,it was also nice to put faces with names..Lets do it again soon. Brad
-
I would just like to say thanks to Steve (Jacobsladder) for being a great host. My dad and I had a blast and it was all with great company. I hope we can stay in touch and get together and shoot as often as possible. Thanks again guys for a great day in the woods.
Tim
-
Sounds like you all had a killer time. I'm hoping I can make it to the next one.
-
To all. Thanks you so much for making it to the rabbit trek. My son (jacob) says that is the "funnest" rabbit hunt he's ever had. The afternoon hunt went better and I think we jumped 4 total. We had a total of 5 misses. 4 on the same rabbit. Jake and I started shooting traditional only a few months ago. Our quest in finding more challenge in hunting game, has turned out to be an easy way to meet some wonderful people.
Tim and Dad... congrats on the bow and knife. Annointed archer.. congrats on the full head mount.
Greenville fellow... congrats on the small game mount.
A special thanks to White Buffalo dnating his taxidermy specialties and raising over 200.00 for St Jude.
Tim my 3 back to back stump shots really were luck. My son is the ace shooter. Oh... and I love your Little Scout.... Hated to set it down!!
I think we had a total of around 16. Nice turn out guys. WhiteBuffalo (Jason) and I are hoping to plan another hunt next february. The first saturday after valentines.
Thanks to all for showing up and bringing food. My chili was killer!!! At least I thought so. lol!!
-
Hey, guys. Thanks for letting me tromp the woods with you for a bit. I had to head out early for a funeral, but I enjoyed the time I had. I got to hear the beagles sing even though I never saw any bunnies. It was still more action than last year! I missed having the launcher, but I couldn't have stayed long enough to enjoy it anyhow.
Steve

The chili was excellent, my family is reaping the rewards right now,,,, :bigsmyl: .All of the food was great.

Jason, Thanks for posting the pics and thanks for taking the donations for St Judes. That is awsome that with just a small group to give over $200. The Saturday after Valentines day is already marked on my calander in Outlook so I am all set. Like I said it was great to put a face with the name and hope we can hook up again even to just go do some stump shooting. I did learn not to let Steve or Jacob shoot my bows. They both did a great job of showing me up with both of them. Steve did a good job showing my up with his own bow too and I still dont think luck had anything to do with the back to back to back stick shots he made. You guys were a great group and thanks again for everything. Talk to you all soon.
Tim

thanks for the great time I had a wonderful time sorry we had to get out of there early this year will try to stay later this year. thanks to white buffalo for the small game mount i won in the raffle hope to do that again soon with everybody
rob
-
That's a great looking group :readit:
With the snow so deep how many arrows were lost?
-
Ron, I am glad to hear we may have you on board for next year. As far as I know I think only two were lost. I lost a Judo and shattered some nocks hitting hard stumps but other than that all was well. How was your hunt this weekend? Hope you had as much fun as we did.
Tim
-
It's a beautiful thing to see that a possible yearly tradition of getting together has been formed. Good job! :campfire:
-
Arwin, tell your wife to put in for the day off now. Hopefully you can make it next year. We all felt bad that you were not there and you were one of the guys that started the whole thing.
Tim
-
Man what a blast! Some great looking country for rabbits and deer. Matter of fact the Greenville gang was talking about maybe doing a mini bow camp there early October. Maybe taking Friday of and doing a 3 day hunt. However we will keep you posted!
It was great meeting everybody, I believe that was just a start of things to come.
Arwin - sorry we missed seeing you but there will be another day!
Steve - I totally agree with Tim as what a great host your where. Thanks again for all the effort you put in to making it all happen! By the way you should wash your truck once in awhile maybe it would not stink so bad :biglaugh
Tim - Very nice Shrew you got, I know I am just thrilled with my new Shrew. Out of all the stumps and leaves I killed Saturday only one got away, but that was because I peeked to see what a great shot I was going to maket ;)
Jason - God bless you and your heart and compassion for putting togehter that raffle for St Judes childrens hospital. It was great sharing a ride with you as well. Sorry we left before the afternoon hunt but we had to get back. Don't forget to post the pictures you took. Could you please email them to me as well. Plus I have one of you pans and your blue face mask, so we will have to hook up so I can get them to you.
Again I just want to say thanks, I am a blessed man to have so many friends. I pray God blesses you all!
Jeff
-
Ron,
My bow is the best thing since canned pop! The Classic Hunter is going to be a huge hit. It fit me like a glove, I killed several stumps and leaves with it and what a joy to carry through the woods.
Jeff
-
Thanks for the video. I had a blast!
Jake
-
Jake, you are the man. Even though that rabbit about ran over you I still had a blast hunting and talking with you. If you keep shooting like you are you will be great. Well you already are better than me. Keep up the good work and glad to see you on here. Talk to you later.
Tim
-
hey Ron im the kid in the video. Cant wait to see you next year. :archer:
-
Jake, Good luck tonight. Find all those rabbits that we couldnt find on Saturday.
Tim

Tim I never got a chance to ask you how you liked that new Shrew? I loved mine!
-
I love both of the one I have. I told my wife that I might have to sell all my other bows and get one of each of the Shrews. I think 2 is enough for now and I do like my longer longbows but there is just something about these bows that I just love. Thanks for asking and I am glad to see you like yours as well.

Steve, If I ever decide to sell that bow you will be the first one I call. Between you with the Scout and Jake with the Chameleon I didnt think I was going to come home with any of my bows. I dont know you guys did a much better job at hitting what you were aiming at with them than I did.

Tim between the Chameleon or the Scout do you like one more then the other? I know my friend was looking at the Lil Scout at one time, but he is really glad he went with the Classic Hunter.
-
I like them both but the Scout took more time to get used to. The longbow I shot well the first time I picked it up. The Scout it took about a week of shooting to get used to the way it shot. This could have been why the longbow shot nice for me the first time. I had already shot the recurve for a couple weeks and gotten used to the handle setup.

Tim,I had a great time in the wilderness. We got one rabbit, and I fell through the ice about knee high. :)
