Title: TD Osage finished( sorta)
Post by: BCWV on February 14, 2013, 01:10:00 PM
I was putting finish on her and saw a crack in a knot. I stopped on the tru oil, finished up the grip and plan to  shoot it for a bit to see what happens, unless you fellas think different.

62", 50@26.

Here's the knot. I searched on here and saw where some have drilled the knot/crack and plugged it.
What do you guys think?

I do like how it shoots. I glued 1/8" leather to the metal sleeve and sanded/tapered it down both directions from the center of the grip. I'm not sure if I like it or not yet. May have to work on it some more.

If that is on the back you need to fix it or else! I've never done a Dutchman plug but that should work. Maybe even a rawhide backing on the whole bow. I'd fill it with super glue first no matter which way you go.

Yep, it's on the back. After I posted here I did a search on another site and found where the suggestion was to fill it with super glue. I sanded the finish off, put it on my tillering stick, pulled it to 26" and put 2 rounds of super glue to it. I was hoping that would fix it.

I've ordered some rawhide backing for it. What did I do to make the knot crack? I thought I was careful at the knots and only worked them with a cabinet scraper. Some have said to leave the knot proud and some not. Did I take it down too far?

Thanks
Brad
