Title: Slippery Snakey Elm Selfbow
Post by: DVSHUNTER on February 12, 2013, 12:05:00 PM
This was my first round at the red elm I got from work. Some of you may have seen me use a trackhoe to split it. I'm glad I did! This one is 64 in. Ntn and pulls 45@28. Very lightly heat treated it. Holds about 1 1\\2 in. Of reflex after shooting. Very snappy stuff. I got the skin from my pet shop guy and I forgot what kind of snake it is, but I liked the color.  The tips are cow horn and wenge. The grip is the same deer hide I got from roybert awhile back. Eight strand ultracam string with otter silencers. Thanks for looking.
Dave

She looks sweet, DVS. I love the color of the snake too. How about a full draw pic.
I've only built one elm bow(red I think) but I was very impressed with how well it worked and how well I worked with it. d;^)

Nice Dave.
I've found that if I close out of Photobucket after copying it and Before I paste the url in here, that it doesn't work. If that helps ya any.

Try this site for pictures Dave, TG recommends it too.

WOW That is absolutly gorgous.  So is slippery elm and red elm the same thing??????  I know my grandparents use to say that slippery elm had amazing healing qualities.  Really good to draw out infection.  My mom still swears by it if she could find it anymore.  The tree they used when she was growing up ended up dying cause they used it for so many things.  But sorry for the rant.  I really really great looking bow.  I tell ya what you selfbow guys blow my mind.  I've got to try it.

Thanks Stan and d
Red elm is the same as slippery elm also known as Ulmus rubra.
A quick search tells of all its uses. It's a snappy bow wood after heating.
