Title: 3rd takedown
Post by: perry f. on February 09, 2013, 08:37:00 PM
Here's my third takedown recurve. Zebra riser, zebra veneers, walnut wedges. Came in at around 57# @ 28"

Nice looking bow Perry.  Do you have a layer of clear glass on the back of the riser?

Kenny, this is the one with the cloudy spot. I ended up just beveling the limb butt.

Jess, no clear glass on back of riser. Just solid zebra wood. Should I have put clear glass on it? Everything I know about bow building I have learned on here or self taught by reading books, videos, and trial and error. Thanks

D, haven't shot it yet, just got rest put on it. Hope to shoot some tomorrow. This one is going to my cousin. This is one of the bows I had promised and decided not to do the swap this year. Now if I can finish a couple more and get some taxidermy work caught up I'll be able to breathe.. Too many hobbies. Lol!!!

It is a good looking bow.I think what Jess ask about the clear glass is a good question. You may never have a problem with your riser. But with the amount of deflex you have there most of the straight line of your wood grain is interupted and a couple of layers of glass on the front of it would greatly strengthen it in the shelf and grip area.Just take a look at some of the risers of the sponsors here. Those accents are for looks and more so for stength.
