Title: Couple New Stringfollow LB's
Post by: Hatrick on February 07, 2013, 08:06:00 PM
Here's a couple of Hill style stringfollow longbows I just finished. I recently built one for a friend of mine who wanted a sassafras core. It shot so nice I decided to experiment a bit and make 2 more. These two have 2 lams of sassafras each with a center lam of walnut. I had some walnut laying around and always heard it was a decent core wood. I also thought it would look nice in the center.

Bow#1 - 66" black glass back with clear on the belly and a veneer of osage. 16" Curly maple riser with black leather grip. Black and white phenolic tips. 8 strand D-97 and completely silent with puffs. 44# @ 28"

Bow#2 - 64" brown glass on the back with clear on the belly and a veneer of osage. 16" wenge riser with brown leather grip. Elk antler tip overlays. 8 strand D-97 and very quiet with no silencers. 45# @ 28".

Both bows shoot very well but bow#2 is an absolute dream to shoot and noticeably faster. This bow surprised the heck out of me with speed.

Fellas, thanks for all the compliments. I am absolutely loving bow #2, the wenge riser. I've been shooting some 5/16 as well as 11/32 woodies all in the 43 -45# spine range with this bow. With a 125 gr. point up front they're weighing in at 455 - 470 grains. Bow #1 shoots the same arrows just not quite as quick.

These bows are really educating me with this particular stringfollow form.
