Any helpful hints and tips for hunting elk out of a tree?? How high should I set up? Thanks

I have taken 5 elk from tree stands and I get as high as I can with my climber. I think it might help hide any mistakes made by the hunter, also help a little with scent control some I believe.
Just like deer find a morning spot where they pass by to bed or an evening spot where they come out to feed.
If hunting a watering hole or wallow, I try to set up to the side of the hole as opposed to direcly above or below of the hole. To avoid morning and evening thermals. Downwind of game trails. (easier said than done)
If you can find a watering hole, wallow, travel route, etc. that is being used regularly they can be very effective. But if I hear a bull off in the distance I am out of the tree and on the run!
It works; but it is as snag noted; really hard to stay put when the elk move by out of range; or bugle in the distance.
I had a treestand set up at the bottom of a ridge last fall; and the elk ran down the ridge; and it sounded like a bunch of tanks coming at me.
There were bulls in range; but no shots at vitals; which really makes you think twice about where your stand is; and what your doing in it-especially when if you could move a few inches you could have a shot.
Fun though !!
I think committing to a treestand could be the ticket; its just hard to do so !
