I hope this description makes sense. Is the horizontal brush rest that mounts on the inside of the riser on what looks like a black mounting plate for a sight (above the shelf) on some of the mid 60's Kodiak functional? It doesn't look long enough to hold the arrow on. Can it be removed and replaced?
They were mostly on the target bows,of which the shooters were shooting farly small diameter aluminum arrows alot during that time period. And the brush worked pretty good for some shooters.I have removed them from the plate and then replaced the arrow rest with the peel and stick type.Should stick right over the plate a little and once removed should leave no damage behind.bowdoc
Bowdoc, thanks much. I'm looking at a '65 Kodiak on "that" site, but I haven't seen one in person and couldn't tell from the pictures whether or not it was usable or could be removed. Can the plate itself be removed? It looks like it is afixed with small screws.
That was my favorite rest back in the early 70's. If I remember correctly, they were called Para-Rests...
The old Bear brush rests came in two versions. One was a stick on and the other was the one you seem to be describing....it actually had a recess on the sight window that allowed you to screw it on. They were very good rests and I used one for almost ten years for hunting and field archery. The Para rest, mentioned above, is also a stick on type that is more durable than the Bear stick on.
Stringer,I checked out the 1965 on freebay.Yes that plate is mounted into a routed area with 4 small wood screws.Once the 4 screws are removed left the plate and that brush will pop out.Our basicly fall out I guess you might say.....That may be a great bow there...but the seller kinda makes a guy wonder...his post say I wear my neg.feed back as a badge or something.did you check that out...yikes.......bowdoc
Bowdoc, thanks for the info; I figured that was probably how that worked. Yea I noticed his writeup too. I read it as he's just particular. He's pricey but he sells some nice stuff. I've been watching his stuff for a few weeks.
Ya His name is Jim Vigil and he does seem to sell some fairly good looking bows.Yes a little pricey, but nice....bowdoc
Hey Bowdoc, how's it going ?? Anything new with you ??................
