Id like to know what any of you think is the best arrow and Hog set up???? I just ordered 6 new WW BH's 125 gr. and 2 packs of German Kinetic silverflames 150 gr. shooting 125 in 53# longbow(LB Acadian Woods and RECURVE Whisperstik in 56#...THANKS MARCO....looking at woodies for longbow , got that covered , but want to shoot carbons with my 150's silverflames...thinking 150 cx or anything but Gold Tip ...
one more ...
I used a ceader arrow on a hog last winter, with a 160 gr stos and I had blood half way up the feathers. I hit the spot that I wanted, but I did not know at the time that it was too far to the rear. You have to hit them just to the rear of the leg bone. So much for 3d targets. Had great penetration from my set up.
Go over to the Dangerous game forum and check out " California Boars" by David (Kingwouldbe). He shoots some monster hogs and doesn't seem to have a problem. Good luck!
CX arrows work fine for me, as do Grizzlystiks - but any arrow that takes your fancy and is set-up right will knock 'em for six!
Hogs break my arrows so the arrows I shoot all summer and are looking kinda beat up, I pull off the field tips and put on a 160gr STOS. All my hunting arrows are summer tested, fly great but just not that pretty. Pretty's for the 3-D course.
I use the same setup as Killinstuff and hogs do break arrows so use older arrows.

This big guy was hit with 180gr Flame behind 100gr brass insert (680gr total) out of a Morrison Dakota 75#. Hit broadside at 15ft and only 12" of penetration. Big hogs are tough.
Shoulder blades are tough!
Hunt It,
What arrow you using with that combo. I am thinking about get some 75# limbs at my 27" draw. I been thinking about what arrows I would need.
James
Last weekend i shot a nice hog with 49# limbs on my bob lee recurve. Complete pass through. White feathers sure look better when they are matted and red!
Arrow was a 30" GT 5575, tipped with a simmons interceptor 190 grain. Total arrow weight...515ish
10 yard shot. Shot was low and tight.
what do you have against GT's ?
I use a hunting tapered cedar shaft and a Grizzly or STOS 160 gn BH for a 625 gn total
package outta' my 50# ACS. Works great!
I see more Grizzly and stos...Im going to order some stos..160 and grzzly just to try...I m not sure what arrows , marco
I shoot hogs with whatever is at hand but the last 2 I shot fell to a 30.5 inch CX heritage 350 with a 50 gr. insert and a 160 gr. simmons landshark just a hair over 600 grains. I am shooting a 58# recurve with FF string and both were complete pass throughs. Hogs are tough and arrow placement is very very critical and so is sharp broadheads.
James,
The carbon shafts used there were Easton Evoutions from a few years back. They are the last shafts Easton made before switching to the Axis. I had four dozen on hand and they are perfect for the 75#. I'm not sure what gr per inch they are but the exact same length (29 1/2) is 100grns heavier than same length GT 55/75.
I'm going to TX for hogs in less than 2 weeks. The setup I am using is GT35/55 cut 28" with 100 grain brass inserts and 250 grain heads for total arrow weight around 625 grains, out of a 54# bow. Broadheads are Magnus I's and WW's both weighted to the 250 gr mark. I couldn't decide on which one, so I'm hoping to get a chance to try both. I think this should be plenty if I do my part. Mark
THANKS...BUD,,,IM IN THE SAME BOAT!
Just recently switched to Easton Axis and love them. Had no problems w/ two javelina shot in south Texas. They are not as big as hogs, but got complete passthroughs. Love the way those Axis fly. Tiny shaft diameter lets you really drive 'em deep.
Nice boar Dave. Lung hit, I see. Lin
i have used alot off different broadheads to kill hogs, i go against most peoples advice, i like to shoot a 2 blade or 2 w/ bleeders, most people saw to shoot them with a large broadhead or a big 3 blade. i have never had a problem with a blood trail from a 2 or 4 blade.
aim really low, really really low, if you are not in the bottom 3rd of the body you are way to high, also if the big is broad side i shoot threw the leg bone with a 2 blade and if he is quartering away i aim for the knuckle, you can't shoot them to far forward.
Killed Hogs with RIBTEKS 190gr and 160gr, MAGNUS II 135gr and Stingers 4 blades, Snuffers 160gr, can't really compare but the one I like the best is the RIBTEK 190gr
