My buddy sent me these pics. Don't know where they were taken, but thought I would share.

Awesome pics! Looks like a beautiful winter day too
Great camo for the winter months. Not so good come summer. Nice pics.
The largest albino herb is near Syracuse on a fenced in military base. Only military folks can hunt it on a lottery basis.
The New York herd,(the name of the base escapes me :banghead: ) are not albinos, they are a genetic strain of totaly white deer.Unlike albinos, they have black eyes, noses and hooves.
very cool
Love the pic, where did he get that buckmark feeder????
that is one of the coolest things I've ever seen. I wander what the sheer odds are of two pure albino deer together?
Greg
those deer have some great snow camo...... i hope they can change the pattern come next fall!
im pretty sure it is illegal to kill albinos in michigan ....but pibalds are ok to take.... not 100% on that one though.
Thanks for shairing great picks.
woodchucker,
There is a rumor around my area that it is because of the pollution on the base that there are mutant strains of deer on that base. Something about nuclear material. Have you ever heard that one.
Jon
Rumor at best - and unfounded speculation.

Seneca Depot is where the herd of white Whitetails is. The white recessive gene runs in the herd and being contained in the depot enough cross breeding/inbreeding has occurred to grow a population of around 200 there. There are also piebalds and such. The whites were protected by the military while the browns were managed with hunting. It isn't uncommon for whites to have normal brown fawns and browns to have whites.
Here's a couple of pictures from/ Salt Lake, Utah, my friend took.

Last year they opened hunting on the whites. They did a story on it on NPR. The herd is getting too big. Some of the white deer must jump the fence since some dude at my local pro shop has a nice mount of one he got outside of the depot
The white moose is too cool!
