Title: New Guy - Exotic Wood Recommendations
Post by: SwampEagle on December 28, 2012, 10:12:00 PM
Hi there,

Im a new guy but I've been doing my homework and studying TBB 1-4 (several times now). I am thinking I will be ready to start my first bow in late January/early February.

My first bow will not be made from the more expensive stuff but I will have to make at least 3 total.  My bow(s) will be the 'learning bows'. Once I'm comfortable, I have to make 2 more for my twin daughters.  Showing them pictures, they have listed certain specifications.  i.e.  zebrawood, purpleheart, cocobolo, etc.  I guess I deserve it for showing them some of Bradford's work!   haha.   Sooooo.......

Who / Where do you recommend  or use for these kinds of wood?  If you could also let me know why, that would be awesome.  If you are selling it, please PM me.  I am perfectly happy going with someone on the site, rather than a chain like Woodcraft.  Prefer it actually.  I have worked with almost all of them when I was woodturning but not in the dimensions I will need for bows.

Take care,
Matt

Here's Kenny's site.  You simply won't beat his prices, quality, and fast service.

If by chance Kenny doesn't what the wood you want, you might try Binghams.

Awesome guys!  Thanks a bunch. If there's more, keep them coming.

I'm thinking I will shortcut the process on the first one and go with Bingham's. No stranger to word working and composite construction, I think a decent thickness sander and I would be set. That is, if I decide to make more than 3-4. I got some fairly cool machines.  My CNC's being the 'Crown Jewels'.
